Anyone up for a kinda grody challenge?

So, I had a wonderful & intense home water birth last month. Hooray! No problems, but there's one thing that has both me and the midwives stumped. After I got out of the tub, they noticed a strange white, almost tapioca-like substance in the pool! I didn't look at the pool itself after I was finished, but they say it was EVERYWHERE! Tapioca, cottage cheese, both were used to describe it. Neither midwife had ever seen it before.

One of the midwives scooped up a little to show it to me, but when you took it out of the water, it started to dissolve into more formless slime (which is what ruled out the possibility of it being some form of yeast to me). They say it only appeared in the tub after I delivered the placenta, not after the baby.

What the sam hill was this stuff? Has anyone ever seen this before? Like I said, there were no complications so obviously it didn't cause or indicate any problems, but it still bugs me that we don't know what this stuff that came out of my body was!

Experienced pros? Anyone?

No idea. Until you said it didn't come out until after the placenta, I was thinking it was vernix.

Vernix or mucus are my guesses. Sometimes a babe with a lot of vernix's amniotic fluid will have a bit of that "cottage cheese" look in some spots.

Anyone else with ideas?!
