At my last prenatal visit, my MW was feeling to see if baby was head down or not and she exclaimed, "man, you're tight!". I should have asked right then what she meant but didn't. Do you ladies know? Is being tight a good thing or a bad thing? Thanks!

Could be any number of things.

Was she doing a vaginal exam?

If she was palpating your abdomen at the time she might have been referring to your abdominal wall muscles?

It sounds interesting trvia, not important information.

Tight abdorminal muscles usually make the baby "Drop" sooner rather than later. But that doesn't make labor come faster or go easier or anything - it's trivia.

My vote is she was referring to your abs. It can be hard to palpate a babe when mom has really tight abdominals! Is it your first babe?

ETA: Just noticed it's your 2nd. Congrats on being in good shape!

Peaceful mama to three blissfully-birthed and incredible small people: dd10, dd7 and ds5. Always awed and so thankful to be a midwife.

Phew! I'm glad she was talking abs!

A while back, a doctor told a client of mine that she had a very tight vagina while doing a vaginal exam at her very first visit. She stewed about that her entire pregnancy and finally asked me what he meant during childbirth class. I told her it meant that he was a jerk.

I can't believe a doctor would say that! Thanks for reassuring me ladies. Its one of those things that keeps running through your mind and then you start wondering if its a bad thing (i.e. my muscles are too tight to allow baby to get into proper position, etc). Glad its nothing!

I'm just proud to say that I didn't really say what I was thinking in the moment. Jerk wasn't my first choice of words.....
