Hello everyone,

I have a client who we suspect is emotionally stuck and not going into active labor. She's been 4 cm and fully effaced for over a week. Also the 42 week point is approaching and her OB isn't going to allow her to birth naturally after that point, if she is patient enough to let this mama get to 42 weeks.

So here is what I'm asking you for - do any of you have any powerful meditations or guided imagery you can share that I can share with her? She's been so willing to try everything and is likely going to try EFT (emotional freedom technique) today, too.

I'd really appreciate any suggestions you might have.

Mama to Noah Jude, 8/17/01, Emerson Lily, HBAC 8/3/03-8/3/03, Beatrice Ruth, homeborn 2/6/05, and Winter Juno Lucine, 12/22/08.:

Have you asked her, privately, if she feels that she is emotionally stuck? Sometimes asking the mama why she feels she hasn't yet gone into labor can open up a whole new thought process for them. She may not be emotionally stuck at all...she may feel great! Or that everything is as it should be! Yet if her loved ones are assuming she is "stuck" and projecting that assumption onto her, she may go along with it without ever voicing that she doesn't feel stuck at all.

As for the OB, please inform the mama that she has the right to decline an induction. If her body is not telling her that something is wrong, then she does not have to be induced at 42 weeks, no matter how impatient the OB becomes.
