I've heard many people say after a 12 week visit that didn't hear a heart beat and thought that maybe it could be effected by their weight. Is this true?

I have seen plenty of really thin women where we haven't been able to pick up the baby's HR with a doppler until 13-14 weeks.

Personally, I think that placental placement and retroverted uteri have more to do with not being able to hear baby yet at 11-12 weeks.

Reha- thanks that interesting. When I saw you say placental placement that really perked my interest. So in those cases where would you say placenta was?

if the placenta is in the fundus, it may be just so that the little baby is 'hidden' right behind the placenta, so you can't pick up his/her heartbeat with the doppler. Does that make sense?
