I'm thoroughly stumped by what I've been experiencing during this pregnancy: every 4 or 5 weeks I've had bleeding that is much like how a normal period would be for me. I'm now 13 weeks along and the baby is doing just fine. I've read about other women experiencing this, sometimes throughout their whole pregnancies. How can this be? I didn't have this at all with my son, so I'm wondering what's different this time around. Has anyone come across any information or wisdom on this through their studies or experience? Thanks in advance!

I had a former co-worker who didn't find out she was pregnant until she was almost 4 months pregnant because she continued to have periods during that time.
She only found out because she had routine bloodwork done at the doctors office, and they told her she was pregnant. When they did an ultrasound to date the pregnancy, they got a HUGE surprise. They had no explanation as to why she had bled like she had a period for the first couple of months.

Wife, Mother and Doula.

I bled when I would have had my period for 3 - 4 months with my first pg. Now, this was in NO WAY like a regular period - my regular periods for most of my life were very heavy with severe cramping for 3 - 4 days + 4 or 5 more days of lighter bleeding. I was told it was a subchorionic hemorragh (I can't spell that!) and not to worry, but it still scared the living daylights out of me every time.

It did not recur with my second pregnancy.

Here as mama to W (2/04), R (5/06), D (7/09), and J (12/9/12!), co-parenting with my DH

I WOH part-time, am a doula & childbirth educator, home/unschool, and hope we are nearing the center of chaos

My Grandma had a "period" of sorts through all 7 of her pregnancies. She had 6 live births and one still born. Though there are hormone problems in my family, and a clotting disorder that thankfully has not appeared in me or my children.
