Carla at AAMI is offering a really big discount on tuition if a group of 4 or more sign up together. Tuition is going up next year. I was wondering if anyone was interesting in signing up with me. I don't know the specifics of cost but I can find out if there is interest.

Please let me know ASAP if you are interested. The offer has been extended through November 1st!

Depending on the discount, I may be interested. I checked the website, and I guess you have to email her for more info. If it is truly substantial, I might just go for it since I'm itching to get started, but won't be able to attend school until August 2009.

Ack, I just read the part where it expires October 23rd. Unless it's more than half price off, I wouldn't be able to afford that. Damn. Sorry.

I was considering this too. I don't know if I can get the money together fast enough, although I may be able to if its a huge discount. I can't make any promises though.

Are you planning on staying in FL? I contacted them awhile back, and was bummed to learn about the rules for practicing in this state in regards to our education requirements. Gotta go to one of the schools here that is approved by the state. Blah. Their programs seems so neat, doable, and practical for a mom with kids!

No, I'm not planning on staying in Florida, but I am going to go to school here anyway because if my husband and I ever moved back to Ireland, education with AAMI would not transfer, so I'd have to complete my education all over again in Ireland.

I'm honestly not that great with correspondence courses anyway. I don't have the discipline needed to devote time each day to studying. I do like distance/correspondence courses for supplemental info, though, which is why I still want to enroll in AAMI even while going to FSTM next year.

Ok, so here's the deal:

tuition is usually $3950 - going up at the end of the year.

Here's the discount:

"if there are 4 of you paying in full by the deadline you may each enroll for $2500
and any of you may add Great Start 4 for $700 and it can be 10 payments of $70

if there are 5 of you paying in full by the deadline you may each enroll for $2400
and any of you may add Great Start 4 for $500 and it can be 10 payments of $50

if there are 6 of you paying in full by the deadline you may each enroll for $2300
and any of you may add Great Start 4 for $300 and it can be 10 payments of $30

please note that this is cash price.....cashier's check or check (checks must clear before we start anyone) if anyone needs to put it on credit card we have to add 4% to hers
also note that a 125 admin fee is due from each enrollee at time of enrollment ...non refundable and the Curriculum Return Deposit of $250 with 90 days.....it is refundable at graduation
let me know if there is anything i can do to help you.....I hope you can get 6.....and I can give you a 2 day extension on the deadline since i was slow to get back with you...."

There ya go. Let me know if any of you can swing it. This is a really good deal. :

My big problem is I am abroad and I am not sure a wire transfer would make it in time or even if Carla would take a wire transfer...

etoilech - I'm not sure about the wire transfer. If it's reputable (Western Union or something) I can't see why she wouldn't accept it. Send her an email - she'll get back to you really fast.

*Clarification for everyone*

She can't take payments with the group discount. She said they've tried it in the past and it doesn't work. She takes checks (waits for them to clear before finalizing enrollment), cashier's checks and credit cards. With the credit card there is a 4% fee.

She is also willing to extend the deadline another 2 days for us. That gives us 5 days.

One more thing in case you didn't see it: The Great Start 4 package normally goes for $899. If we can get six of us we can get it for $300 each. (She'll take payments on that.) That's really good.

Let's do this ladies! I'm definitely in.

does anyone have an idea of how much further investment would be involved for books? i don't live in the us and getting stuff from a library wouldn't be very feasible. basically, i'm 95% ready to sign up for this today, but dp is worried about other costs later on.

To update everyone:

I have 2 definites if we have 4 or more. One more definite if we can get 6.

We just need 3 more definites ladies! We can do this. Let me know. This is too good an opportunity to pass up.

In case some of you aren't following the Student Midwife tribe, mamarabbit said that you should plan on spending around $1000 for books if you have to buy them all and pay full price. If you already have some of the usual books you should be able to do it for quite a bit less than that.

I hope that you will have enough ladies. It really is a good deal. JUst disappointed when life gets in the way of me getting what I want.

How many people are there now??

I spoke with my husband and he said we can do it, especially since it is such a big discount and I was going to enroll sooner or later anyway.

If we pay by check, does she have to get it by the 25th, or just know that it is coming??

My husband is going to be home in minutes and I can't wait to talk this over with him. I'm leaning strongly toward enrolling now. I see that you can take advantage of the discount and postpone starting your work for up to a year, which is perfect for me because I'm trying to finish up my bachelors.
