I'd love a pattern too!  I'm planning to make them as a gift for my midwives.  There was a MDC link that was posted in a thread, but it's a dead link.  Any help would be appreciated as I'd prefer not to just wing it.

You don't really need a pattern, just a machine that can sew through quite a few layers. :)

I made mine by laying out a rectangle of flannel and hemming each long side. Then accordion-ing each end (baste it in place) and then slipping it through the D ring before sewing it down. It took about 10 minutes but I did break a needle because it was a lot of layers to go through.

Thanks Amy, that's pretty much how I laid it out.  I don't sew very often, so I wasn't sure how to go about doing it initially.

Unbelieveable!  I made out a huge long explanation of how to make one, measurements and all, and it is GONE.   That SUCKS.  Why would MDC delete that old post and keep the stupid older posts???

I just made two for my midwives and they loved them.  For each one I cut a piece of fabric 25 inches wide by 36 inches long.  I hemmed the long sides (fold 1/2 inch, fold 1/2 inch, sew).  Then I did a sort of pleated on the ends, basted the top to hold down the pleats, fed through a ring, sewed down (two rows of stitching here for extra security).  Aside from figuring out the pleating (google around for ideas on how to do this), it was easy breezy.  Oh... one tip... pick a fabric that will hide meconium and newborn poop well as they tend to stain.
