Finding an apprenticeship?

How do you go about getting an apprenticeship? I'm still about 2.5 years away from getting my BSN, but figured it's never too early to ask. Do these opportunities pop up while in actual nursing school? Do I need to walk to my birth center and request an apprenticeship? What do you do? Sorry for the questions :p

You could contact MANA and ask for suggestions.

Have you checked into the birth centers that take interns, like Better Birth and Maternidad La Luz?

Where are you enrolled in school? Is there someone there who might have connections that can help you?

Make sure that the apprenticeship you choose mirrors the type of practice you want to have. Do you want to work in a high volume birth center? For a managed care hmo? Small birth center? Private practice? The goal of apprenticeship and midwifery education is applicable knowledge and experience. Going to a high paced clinic may not meet your needs.
