I have a question for some of you more experienced doulas. I received an email last week from a woman who had read my post on another thread and was interested in doula services. She and her husband hadn't made of their mind yet regarding using a doula (which I get as my husband and I went through the same this when I was pregnant). I emailed her back, let her know that I would be available on her due date, and then offered to meet for an interview. I haven't heard back from her.

My question is this - is it considered bad protocol to send a "follow up" email to touch base with her? I don't want to sound pushy. This is my first opportunity since I completed my training in April, so I was pretty excited to get the email.

Thanks for your advice and suggestions. I know this profession takes patience and time to get up and rolling. I'm just hoping to speed things along if possible.

One more question - Did any of you "cold call" midwives after your training to get your name out there? I'm a member of my state's doula association, but wondered if it would be OK to email some local midwives to introduce myself. Thanks again.

I would email her again if her due date was close or if you are a possible conflict. Sometimes I have sent emails along the lines of, Hope you are well. I know your due date is coming up in 3 months and I wanted to let you know that I am starting to make plans for that month. Please let me know if you are still interested in my services. Thanks!

Of course I don't reserve dates for people who have not signed a contract. I think the above email reminder is a nice way to say that because I have heard moms say 'oh well we were in contact so I assumed my date was on your calendar." My contract specifically says otherwise, of course.

If her due date is further than 3 months away I wouldn't sweat it.
