I am curious to find out when to take an extra birth prep supplement and which one to choose.  What is the supplement suppose to do?  With DS I only took EPO starting at 36 weeks, in addition to RRL and alfalfa teas and prenatal vitamins.

No birth prep supplements for me, I did EPO with my 2nd and it isn't for me. My last birth my cervix was firm and closed 36 hours before baby was born, didn't use EPO, when baby was ready he came. I do enjoy my pregnancy tea but I drink that even non-pregnant so it's nothing additional. You don't have to do any supplements, our bodies are amazing as is!

i have the opposite issue where i want to keep this one in as long as possible.  my oldest was born at 37 weeks and was a wee thing (still is!) so i'd like this babe to stay on the inside for a bit longer than that.  my second was born at 39 weeks and was 2 whole pounds heavier with a stronger suck to go with it.

doula mama to my nov 05 and my feb 08 babes who wrap me in love.

Around 36 weeks, with the last 2 pregnancies, I started taking MasterGland supplements.  Supposedly it's meant to just get everything (hormonally) lined up in preparation for labor.  I also did castor oil, which didn't work (for labor purposes) with #5 but kick-started labor for #6 quite nicely.  I am interested in finding out about the black or blue cohosh supplements to get things going when the time comes.  Having had so many, I go through prodromal labor that lasts about the final 6 weeks or so, and it wears you down entirely.  Plus, if I carry past the first week of February, my midwife will be gone for seven days and I will be expected to have a doctor deliver in full-on hospital style.  I don't want that.  I am already kicking up the RRL tea, though not to the frequency that I drank it in pregnancy #5 (where the tea worked too well and I ended up with an amniotic sac that was so thick, they had to rupture it but almost couldn't get the amnihook to catch it).  I am totally devastated at losing my homebirth this time, so I don't want to be laboring in the hospital (even if it IS the birth center) for hours on end, and my transitions go super fast once they get moving.  I figure I will supplement the early labor process with something and when I get to the hospital/center/whatever, I will be ready to push the baby out before they can insist I must lie on the bed and submit to monitoring, IVs, etc.
