at what point in your pregnancy can you usualy see the heartbeat? i seem to remember it being 9 weeks, but see people posting that they didn't see it at 9 weeks.

i have an ultrasound at exactly 9 weeks and have been excited, but i dont want to be dissapointed if i dont see it.

I *heard* it at 9.5 weeks, if that makes any difference?

With an ultrasound, you usually can see the heartbeat around 6 weeks. With a doppler, you hear the heartbeat. I've never had a doppler appointment any earlier than 11 weeks, so I'm not sure when the earliest is that you can hear the heartbeat using that method.

Either way, if you have an ultrasound, you'll definitely see the heartbeat by 9 weeks.

I had an US last week (my first this pg) and saw the heartbeat. I was 9w0d according to my calculation. Baby measured 8w5d.

Yeah, we saw a heartbeat at 6weeks, 2 days-- and the tech said that if we'd come a day earlier we might not have.  I had another us at 8 weeks, 4 days, and it was very easy/clear.  Nice little head and arms and legs!  Go ahead and look forward to it!

We were not able to hear the HB at 11 weeks with a doppler. Neither the Dr or us were concerned. The babe is just too little to hear with the strength of mamas blood pumping. She also suggested that the babe sometimes likes to get close to the major artery there. Making it impossible to hear the baby. There was no need for a vagninal ultrasound, so we didn't do one.

I saw the heartbeat when the fetus was measuring less than 6 weeks, and again at 7w4d through ultrasound.  I will probably hear it at the next appointment at 11w2d.

I have a question, especially for those mamas who have a doppler at home. Can you heart your own heartbeat clearly by pointing the doppler somewhere around your uterus?

Yes, you can easily hear the uterine arteries bringing blood to the uterus which pulse in the same rhythm as mom's heartbeat. Usually I hear them to the far left and far right which - check out this picture:

The sound is a slow whoosh-whoosh (not the clip-clop of the baby's heart), usually something around 60-90 beats per minute.

We say the heartbeat with vaginal ultrasound at six weeks and again at 8 weeks.  The doctor warned me both times, though, that a heartbeat might not be visible if the baby was in a funny position or "hiding".  We were also told that it wouldn't have been visible with an over-the-belly ultrasound until about 10 weeks.

I think my MW might have pulled a fast one on me! I panicked right before going to see family at 9.5 weeks and she let me come in for a quick listen. She found the heartbeat quickly, I listened, and then was out the door.

That first heartbeat sounded slower and in a different pattern than the heartbeat we heard last week, at 11w0d. Hmmmm. I wonder if she was doing something a bit sneaky? If so, it worked very well because I got what I needed out of it (calm). Think she could have tricked me?

I saw my heartbeat 7 weeks 6 days. I havent got to hear it yet because my uterus is tipped, but both ultrasounds I have seen it and it has been strong.
