Hello Ladies,

I'm hoping you can help me figure out how best to support my best friend.  Her beautiful daughter arrived yesterday morning after an unwanted but necessary c-section.  My friend is struggling, I can tell.  She is heartbroken at the loss of her birth plan and in a lot of pain.  Holding the baby is tough because it hurts and she hasn't gotten established with breastfeeding yet because the kiddo is so sleepy.

Any tips for ways to be supportive?  I'm already planning a grocery run and some freezer meals.  I'm a mom of three but mine all came vaginally so I feel ill-equipped to fully help her.

Many thanks!

Sounds like you are doing everything needed. The support and meals is great! After my c-section it was nice when my best friend held the baby while I struggled to shower and what not.

It is wonderful that you are there to help your friend out. One thing that really helped me after my section 11 weeks ago was having friends validate my feelings and let me talk about how disappointed I felt. I was planning a homebirth until we found out that our twin girls were breech and transverse and could not be turned. I was devastated to be sectioned, but it had to be. Of course, your friend needs help with physical tasks, but she will need her emotional support, too. Your friend is lucky to have you there.
