My son is 7.5 months old.  His foreskin looks very irritated, and he has red bumps on the irritated area.  It looks like the rash continues down inside his foreskin.  I am getting frustrated, because all of the advise I receive (including from our pediatrician!) is that I'm not cleaning under the foreskin enough and I need to retract to clean every night.  Any tips?

I have and never will retract my son's foreskin. Stay strong mama. When it looks like my son has some sort of redness or rash i clean like normal(no retraction) and I either try to let him air out as much as possible and /or use a thyme and calendula salve.

Anyone else hav any advice?

I know it is so stressful having an intact son when it seems you have no medical support when issues arise.*hugs*

It is quite normal for a child in diapers to have a reddened foreskin. This shows that the foreskin is protecting the more delicate underlying glans penis from the ammonia in the diapers.

The protection provided by the foreskin prevents meatal disease - meatitis, meatal inflammation, and meatal stenosis, which requires an operation to reopen the urethra and facilitate urination.
