Body functions refer to regularity in hunger signals, toileting, sleep patterns etc.  The circadian rhythm of one's natural body signals. :-)

Here in flood ravaged Calgary, volunteering is at an all time high!  Thank you for your patience in my tardiness in posting.  We are cleaning up the city and although 100,000 people were evacuated, only a smaller portion lost their homes.  It has been a very trying time.

So back to Temperament Traits:

Here is what people in my groups have reported about Irregular Body Functions:

What do you see as challenges in parenting a child that is highly irregular in body functions?

Child often doesn't get enough sleep

My child has low blood sugar from not eating regularly, but refuses to eat when I know she needs it for her mood regulation.

I feel I need to give some structure to my child

I'm always on alert for body needs.

It's hard to schedule life without regular sleep and re-fueling times.

What do you see as benefits in parenting a child that is highly irregular in body functions?

My child is flexible and we can travel easily when nap, meal and toilets are not always regular.

We have more options and if life gets crazy, we are adaptable.

What do you see as challenges in parenting a child that is highly regular?

It can be hard to meet needs.  Food or nap areas are not always available.

It can be a challenge to adapt to new environments such as school, sleep-away camp, hospitals, visiting, Grandma's house, etc.

It can be difficult to be spontaneous.

What do you see as benefits in parenting a child that is highly regular?

We are organized and prepared.

There is a predictable pattern to the day and that gives me and my child security.
