My baby is 5 months old, exclusively breastfed. At about age 3 months he started having watery green diarrhea about 5 times a day and then developed a strange rash. This was after he had been pooping every few days for several weeks. The rash was about a 2-3 inch crescent shape, red, raised, warm to the touch, on both sides of his bottom cheeks. I brought him in to see the NP and we determined it was probably related to me consuming wheat. I have been on and off gluten free diet for months; I last ate gluten around New Year's but then started to eat it again the day he developed the diarrhea and rash (I wanted to be tested for gluten sensitivity/celiac-another long story).
Without gluten he still seemed to be having green diarrhea and strange rash on his bottom so I gave up dairy. On Friday his bottom got really red again and it has welts and is starting to bleed. I wonder if it could be egg? I threw up every time I ate eggs while I was pregnant w/him. But I started eating eggs again for breakfast Thursday and Friday, along with hard boiled eggs at lunch. Trying to do not only gluten free but less grains. Typically I eat GF oatmeal w/Almond milk for breakfast but I don't want to eat oatmeal.
He is otherwise happy, rarely ever cries. Any suggestions as to what i should do or what could be causing the rash? I primarily use cloth diapers, wash with Rockin Green detergent; huggies natural if not cloth.
Thanks!
