DS just turned 21 months and next week we're going to start potty training so I imagine I'll be here quite a bit to vent and/or brag.
Any other parents getting started a little early with their kids?
We did a trial run 3 weeks ago and it went ... OK. We will be following the Oh Crap Potty Training e-book and he spent 2 days without diapers. He is very aware and very good at communicating when he needs to pee or poop, which I feel like are the biggies. But we had a really hard time getting him to sit -at all- on the potty. Major panic and stress. We had family coming to visit, so I put the potty away for a while because I knew it would be too hard to keep an eye on him.
In the meantime, we got a second, smaller potty and a couple of books about using the potty. And he seems pretty into it and understanding. So we'll see how it goes. He goes to daycare on Mondays and Tuesdays, so we'll start next Wednesday and hope to have a productive 5 days before he goes back. His provider is not super excited about potty training at this age, but is willing to try.
How is it going?
For us, it has been pretty good, but I think we need to leave the intensity of the book we have behind. Too much!
We've had no problems with poops! Pees are a different story, LOL! We get a few in the potty a day, but most on the floor. He is really interested in not having a diaper and in trying to use the potty. And he hasn't had any accidents outside the house or on the furniture or anything so that's a plus! So we'll keep going.
Our biggest problem at the moment is the fact that he doesn't like to pull his pants down to use the potty. So... he has to be bare-bum all the time, which won't be practical when we start making longer trips... I'm just hoping that another week or 2 of using the potty regularly, he'll be more amenable to including pants in the process!
We decided to wait for company to leave as well last month. Too many distractions!
I would say it's going well enough to keep me motivated! He's definitely not an all-star potty-goer, but maybe sooner than later.
