New to potty training questions

My LO is 21 months and really into using her potty & the big potty. She has been interested for several months now. I was wanting to wait until summer so she could be diaper free. In April and May after her nap (around 2pm) she would be diaper free the rest of the day. She would pee & poop in the potty. Now that it's summer and I'm home all day she has been diaper free all day except for when we go out, nap time, sleeping and usually 1 diaper when we wake up. She almost always goes in the potty or squats outside if we are outside. When she has a diaper on she tells us when it's dirty. She often try to take it off or gets mad if we put it on her. I bought cloth training pants but I'm not sure when to take the plunge? I have all summer until she will be at a sitter for half days. I'd like to have her trained by then. I'm okay with diapers at nap & night but when do we start no diapers when going out? Am I confusing her? Please help with advice! I just don't want to rush her because she is still young but I also don't want to miss this window.

She sounds like she's ready. Now it's your turn to make the commitment. I potty trained my son at 21 months and it took a week. I believe this is partially because of his personality, but also because I made the commitment and put the diapers completely away (he'd been dry at night for months). He was naked for this and we only went out for an hour at a time with just loose pants on. We kept him naked in the house for about 4 months after that so he could take himself to the potty. Now at 28 months he takes his own pants down to use his potty, so we keep him dressed.

thanks for the encouragement. My only concern is I've had her in just pants some mornings when it's chilly and she goes potty in them. Is this because she isn't ready? Or is this where the training pants and continuous potty trips (aka potty training) comes into play? I'm just somewhat lost because I don't have anyone around me that believes a child this young can be potty trained. So I just need a little reassurance :) thanks!

I wouldn't say that going in her pants means that she's not ready. She is learning and there will be plenty of accidents. Just stay cheerful with her, tell her pee or poo go in the potty and point or take her to it, clean up the mess (have her help with easy clean ups if you'd like), and really celebrate the wins. Have a happy potty dance...jump and clap...whatever works for you.

I stayed away from all training pants, diapers, anything below the waist. If she gets cold, get her some leg warmers. A cold bottom isn't going to hurt her if she's not complaining...and if she does, keep it a little warmer for a few days.

Expect her to be trained and it will happen. Go back and forth on it and she will get confused.

Here's a helpful link to the "method" we used even though I didn't realize it was a method at the time: http://www.babycenter.com/0_potty-tr...ss_10310078.bc.

You are doing an awesome thing by helping her do this now. I hear many horror stories about how difficult it can be as they get older. I felt like it was easy for my LO because we conquered it before he got too settled in his diaper. Keep up the good work!!
