So I've gotten to the point where I am becoming annoyed with finding a comfortable way to sleep. I was a stomach sleeper before pregnancy, and I still angle myself a little bit on the edge of my stomach, with my leg propped up on a body pillow. But mostly I'm trying to sleep on my side (either one). Even rolling from side to side is a big production and I'm thinking of just sleeping on top of the blankets so I can move with my body pillow more easily.
As a result of the side sleeping, I have permanently sore hips and a kink in my neck that won't go away! Seriously, when I first get up in the morning, I have to hobble to the bathroom and don't limber up until I take a warm shower! It's awful. How are you all sleeping? Stiff, achey, or doing okay? I can't even imagine what's in store for the 3rd trimester...
I feel the same way. I just roll from side to side and I have sore achy muscles all day in my lower back, butt and legs. My poor hubby is a light sleeper, so he isn't sleeping either. We even bought a new mattress thinking that I needed a firmer one and I feel worse. I may just start sleeping on the couch.
Last night was brutal for some reason, even though I've been otherwise pretty comfortable. I was hot, and my nursling was kicking me in the head most of the night, and my underwear was riding! Honestly, it was the worst. I should have just stripped down and slept naked on the downstairs couch.
My coworker (who just gave birth), had told me that during the latter part of her pregnancy, her husband ended up just sleeping in their spare bedroom. There just wasn't room enough for the two of them plus her pregnancy pillow! She had one of those big circular ones.
I just use a pillow between my knees and it helps, a little....very little. I honestly don't remember it being this bad with any of my other pregnancies. I think it is a combo of my age, the mattress and the fact i flip from one side to the other trying to avoid my back and belly. I feel like there is not end in sight.
My hubby has been sleeping on the couch occasionally. if it wasn't for the fact that the couch was so far from the bathroom, I would do it more often.
Sleeping, ugh. I try to stay on one side or the other- mostly on my left because my right leg has terrible varicose veins- but then just end up with my arms falling asleep and sore hips the next day. So trying to sleep leaning on my stomach with one leg on a pillow, it's better but the moving from one side to the other... my husband sleeps like a rock and it still wakes him up.
I counted up how many months/weeks left in pregnancy and promptly decided I should not have done that.
Side sleeping is the worst! - How do people do it on the reg? Sore shoulders, arms fall asleep, sore hips (which leads to ouchie back), stiff neck... YEESH!
I'm a stomach or back sleeper normally. I've lost the stomach option, so I've rigged up a pillow situation that allows me to sleep on my back. MW said that all you need is a 15 degree angle to avoid blood flow restriction/blood pressure stuff, so I sleep with a pillow (sometimes two) under my head - a squishy/foamy pillow right under that (under my shoulders to midback) - and then a pillow under my knees. Works like a charm (for me) and I've been sleeping pretty soundly... not even waking up to pee some nights!! This too will probably get x'ed off the list in the last several weeks once my belly is really heavy, but right now it's a dream!

I am going to have to try this. I find the only relief during the night for my hips and legs is on my back, but I lay awake paranoid I'm going to hurt the baby. I need some sleep! I am on day 2 of pulled thigh muscles from sleeping on my side. How does one pull muscles while the sleep!
Thankfully my sleep hasn't been too bad, which is great because with SPD and varicose veins, my waking hours aren't that fun!
I alternate sides, leaning slightly onto my belly with a pillow under my bump.
The best part of my sleep is after DH leaves for work and I can have my leg out, taking up most of the bed. I'm tempted to go sleep in the spare bedroom but it's not insulated so it's really cold.
I used to be a stomach sleeper, long ago, man that was nice... but a bad lower back injury in college put an end to front AND back sleeping for the most part. I've been a side sleeper now for years... but I can't say I'm loving it lately. My SPD is not playing nice with constantly being on one hip or the other, and is especially uncomfortable (i.e. horrible pain) if I "twist" my hips at all so I try to avoid rolling over.
For now, a contoured memory foam pillow folded in half, between my knees is helpful... so is an extra pillow that I can "hug" to hold myself up on my side all night.... and my husband to balance myself on... although the down side of trying to stay on one side all night long is waking up with a sleeping arm half the time.
I've found swimming to be really helpful for the hips lately, as is the chiro.
Hang in there! I like to remind myself that it's only going to be like this for another 13(!!!) weeks or so.

I was a back sleeper before pregnancy so I am constantly waking up on my back and having to roll over to my side. & the leg cramps are just beginning.... yay!!
my favorite part about the 3rd trimester is that i can sleep all day and all night w/out waking! 2nd trimester is worst for me for hormones and waking!
i know third trimester hits b/c i get permanently rosy cheeks, and sleep like the dead.
side- i switch throughout the night and never know where i'm going to be tangled by morning.
king sized bed rocks. fan in my face. separate blankets so we don't fight. we've done this a few times!
i still do some belly, side is not my favorite. but was just rejoicing that my kids all slept til 8:30 this morning. JACKPOT!!!!
I have to sleep on my side. A huge nursing pillow stabilizing my back, one pillow under my belly, one between my knees and a big one under my head (otherwise I get reflux). If I want to turn around I have to move all the pillows from one side to the other, so I tend to stay put as much as possible. Besides that there are 3-6 pee break per night and occasionally a couple of hours where I am awake because the little one is hiccuping or kicking around and keeping me awake.
I finally got one of those large maternity pillows. While I like it in theory and find it very supportive, it's too hot and makes me sweat! I'm trying different combinations of pajamas and blankets (I have to sleep with some sort of blanket to feel secure), but so far no luck
: (. I am back to multiple wool pillows which keep me cool but are a pain to maneuver.
So in these past 2 weeks I've gone from having slight sleeping issues to not sleeping much at all, or so it seems. I have 1 pillow for the belly, and one between my knees, sleeping on my side.I have my tums by the bed, just in case. I pee at least 4 times a night, and turn over with all the pillows, hoping the baby doesn't wake up.
Honestly though the worst part is that I seem to be having that light sleep that I've heard takes over when the baby is born. Half the time I feel like I'm not really sleeping, but dozing in between pee breaks. My DH now sleeps through my bathroom breaks, which only makes me grumpy. He wakes up all refreshed and I wake up more tired than I went to bed. Thank goodness for naps, otherwise I think I would have to change my name to Oscar.
I lurve my body pillow and memory foam topper, I am a side sleeper and these two things mean my arms still get some sort of circulation and my hips don't get too much out of joint.
That said it is challenging getting comfy these days.
Not to mention the nightly pee breaks which are numerous :eyesroll
As long as I can get right back to sleep after visiting the bathroom I sleep fine, I literally stagger there and back with my eyes closed.
If anything else wakes me or if something/someone wakes me up more during my journey to and from the loo then I find myself suffering awful insomnia and it take me hours to get back to sleep if at all :uhoh
