I'm so proud to introduce you to Leonora!
She was born early morning on tuesday the 5th, her due date. She weighed 8lbs 9oz, which makes me feel great considering all the stress I felt over the size of my bump.
We had a beautiful home birth that lasted just under 12 hours. I couldn't have asked for a better birth!
My placenta was a bit unusual, in that the umbilical cord was attached to the membranes. The blood vessels had to travel 7 inches through the membranes to get to the placenta (while my midwife had seen this sort of thing before, it was the longest distance she had ever seen). If my membranes had ruptured in the wrong place, things could have ended quite differently. If this had been known before hand we would have been considered high-risk and wouldn't have had our home birth.
I'm so thankful that everything worked out so perfectly. While the thought of what could have happened scares me, I'm thankful that we did end up having our wonderful home birth. It really strengthens my belief that I'm meant to have this baby!
