Do you work or stay home?

I'm a SAHM and part time doula.

SAHM. Trained as a postpartum doula and also do occasional transcription work from home, but both are few and far between at the moment.

SAHM. I was a teacher for a few years but hated it. I decided to stay home with my daughter when she was born (she'll be 4 in July!!). I plan to go back to work when they are all in school just not sure what I am going to do just yet. I babysit two kids that I've been watching for about 3 years. They all get along great and it's nice extra income.

I work full time outside the home, in social housing/homelessness. It's pretty high stress. DP also works full time. I wish we could both work less, both to spend more time with our daughter, and because both of us are creative types on the side - my partner is a painter (and he works for an art collector) and I'm a wannabe writer.

SAHM since I was 20. Once my kids are in upper grade school I plan to go back to college and then start a very small, possible not-for-profit "business" where I teach super duper comprehensive sex ed to anyone who wants to learn. One day I just realized that a lot of my passions involved reproductive organs - birth, circ, safe sex - so I decided to make an outline of all the info to organize it and then turn that into individual lessons to become class sessions.

Part time lactation consultant and lots of volunteer work (LLL and a hospital breastfeeding support group). I was doing birth doula work until a few months ago but I was feeling too busy and stressed so I'm taking a nice long break.

Full-time public health nurse in maternal/child health here. Because I do home visits (and get to see lots of cutie babies in the process), my time is very flexible during the day so if dd has appointments I can take her and not worry about missing work. It can be difficult at times because most of the moms are no-income and have tremendous obstacles to overcome while being pregnant/postpartum, but I love my job!

I am a SAHM. I used to be a zookeeper and wildlife education teacher. I also used to train dogs and parrots.

I don't know what I'll do when these kiddos are older. Part of me wants to become an elementary school teacher, part of me wants to be a natural childbirth educator and birth doula, and part of me wants to be a vet tech. It's weird being so undecided career wise! Maybe my writing hobby can actually become a career somehow. Who knows!

I'm a writer and editor. I completed my MFA in fiction writing after DD was born. Finishing my thesis with an infant was tough, so I've been trying to slowly give those stories the attention they deserve in revision. Also working on some new stuff.

I edit (manuscripts, dissertations, whatever I can find) and occasionally write on a freelance basis, and patch together various seasonal/contract communications-type jobs at the university in my city. I had been really stressing about needing a "career" job, but recently realized it was stressing me out more than it was worth, as I patch together enough to help us get by, along with DH's salary. I will look for that career job when the kids are older. I have a lot of anxiety about marketability, being able to save for retirement/college, etc., but I'm hoping freelancing can keep my resume current enough to find something full time when the time comes.

You sound exactly like me carriede. I'm SAHM, aspiring homeschooler, with a degree in accounting I haven't used yet (we got pregnant the month I graduated-it was planned). I've worked in various office settings for years and love to organize...I use those skills at home now :)

I work full time outside the home as does DH. I will get 3 months maternity leave and one month paid vacation that i can tack on to that. 4 months does not seem like enough though so i am a bit worried.

I work as a tech support supervisor, both my love and I are writers for the love of it, and he's a painter as well. I also knit, dye yarn, and dabble in all manner of fiber arts

I agree with you Selissa...I am in a similar boat-worried it isn't long enough.

I am a full-time Security Assistant Supervisor and hubby is a full-time Residential Counselor. We have opposite schedules so one of us will always be with baby. After a three month leave (only two weeks paid), I will have to return to work. :( The only good thing I can foresee is that I will have time to make a baby book/journal. Hubby has promised he will bring baby for a visit once-in-a-while.

I hope to be able to start a home childcare for two or three kids soon that will allow me to be with baby 24/7 :) dreams...

I was laid off from a job at a foundation the week I conceived, and was hired immediately as a nanny by a mama I sort of knew in a mom's group I am a part of. I am loving it, and was not happy at the old job. I also am an organizer/staff member at the girls rock camp in my city, which which I love. I have no idea if I will try to continue nannying after this baby is born or if I should go back to a non profit job. I see positives and negatives for both options, I suppose.

Funny that there are so many birth workers here. I was a birth and postpartum doula, childbirth ed instructor and prenatal massage therapist for years, until I joined the non profit world.

I am a SAHM as well. I worked at a bank as a data entry specialist till I delivered my daughter. I just couldn't go back, but we had planned for that. My husband just finished his degree (kinda got a late start) we hope to start a private school together like the one his dad runs (and where we met

) kindergarten through 12th grade in same classroom. We both love the program and have worked in my Father-in-law's school and dream to start one together! I will be at home until we make that happen!

Hi Mamas,

I've had a few different jobs; I used to work in theatre and fashion as a
pattern cutter and seamstress, then I re trained in arts therapy and counselling, and I am now studying Steiner education for kindergarten level, on a foundation course which is one weekend a month until dec.

I hope to do something in the future with setting up my own school or centre with a Steiner and arts therapy focus... This is my dream one day, but first, being a mother and being at home is my focus.

At the moment I occassionally work from home doing some commissions, sewing and creative projects, and I host a healing meditation circle for my local community on Wednesday nights.

My partner is very supportive and by day has a city job, on the weekends he makes music!

I think the plan is to quit the city one day and go live in the country with chickens and babies!

Lots of love x Imogen
