Crazy few days after bad ultrasound :(

We just went in for our first ultrasound. Some major abnormalities were spotted so we were sent to the hospital to see a specialist. After everything, they told us the baby is very swollen and surrounded by fluid inside and out. Also, the placenta is enlarged. This signifies heart failure probably due to a chromosomal defect. The doctor predicted my baby will not survive much longer and with near certainty will die either before or right after birth because if the seriousness of the abnormalities. They took amniotic fluid to see exactly what we are dealing with. I am completely overwhelmed with emotions right now and cannot imagine what the next few weeks or more will be like.

oh that is so horrible. I can only imagine what you are trying to process right now. i send you some strength and love. I hope that further testing shows some improvements. maybe once the baby is mature then something can be done to repair the heart, surgery?marshal your supports and make sure that you give yourself some time to tune in to the baby and be present for this time that you have together. keep hydrated if you are crying lots.
please keep us updated.

Yesterday the genetic counselor called me back with the official diagnosis. She said that my little girl has Turner Syndrome. Unfortunately, this is causing some heart distress which has cause the hydrops that are dangerous. It actually felt good to get the news about Turner Syndrome because if we can get through this pregnancy, she has a chance at a normal life. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers. We are trying to stay really positive and just take things day by day.

Biofarmer - I'm glad the news was at least kind of good! Is there something they can do to help your baby right now? Or is it just kind of a wait-and-pray thing?

Unfortunately, it is a wait and pray thing. I spoke with my midwife and she wants to do weekly heartbeat checks to see if the baby is still alive. I am hoping more options will be available as I am farther along.

birfarmer - just wanted to let you know I've been thinking of you. It is good that you have concrete information now and it sounds like you're in good care with the midwife. I'll be sending lots of good thoughts your way in the upcoming weeks.

biofarmer - I'm really glad to hear there was some encouraging news. It must take incredible strength to sit with the uncertainty and send love to your baby. Beautiful and courageous.

I will be thinking of you and your family, sending thoughts of healing. There's a little girl with Turner Syndrome at the school I work at, and she is all kinds of fun.

Yesterday, I went in for a heart beat check and found out that her heart was no longer beating. I will be induced in the morning. We are all very devastated about our loss. While I knew the doctor didn't expect her to make it, I really expected her to pull through. I am so glad that we only knew of her diagnosis for one week and were able to be very happy and share our love with her for five months. Thank you all for being so kind and I truly hope all of your pregnancies are full of joy.

Biofarmer, if you would like nice, professional, (and free) pictures of your daughter after her birth, see if there is a chapter of Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep in your area. (https://www.nowilaymedowntosleep.org...photographers/) It's a volunteer group that provides that service for parents of stillborn children and those whose babies die shortly after birth. I know many mamas wish they had a physical reminder of their lost baby.
