Varicose Veins

My veins are already bulging and painful. They, so far, are only on my lower left leg, including my ankle and foot (!). Any suggestions? The support socks I had in my previous pregnancy didn't cut the mustard. I don't remember what brand-- they were white with a hole in the toe and my midwife gave them to me.

Any specific tights/socks? Supplements? Exercises? Snake oil? Haha, just kidding about the snake oil. But really, I need help. I appreciate ANY tips/feedback.

I think I should schedule an appointment with a vein specialist. I want them to see how painful they are, and my uterus isn't all that big yet. I'm thinking I'll need to build a case because my insurance only covers surgery if it is warranted-- otherwise they consider it cosmetic.

Before you even go in, call the office and ask to talk to their coder (sometimes the biller is also the coder) to find out what medical necessity criteria you would need to meet in order for your insurance (the actual company) to cover. United Healthcare doesn't consider the same medical necessity as Blue Cross or Tricare, for example. Most billers or even doctors don't know, but a coder would know.

I had some amazing socks one time. I think I purchased them online from some medical supplies type place. They were high quality compression hose/knee highs. Even check out places like zappos. They will carry that sort of thing for sports and recreation, like you can get compression socks designed specifically for hiking, running, rock climbing...all people who do extreme sports need those sorts of things.

My midwife is sending me to an integrative physiotherapist. Interesting-- I have no idea what to expect. I don't fit the list of usual suspects for vein issues. I eat a real-food diet, I am active, a healthy weight, and though I am expecting I do not have a large uterus (yet).

My midwife also prescribed compression tights, but man! It is August in the Mid-Atlantic. I'm not putting those puppies on until the middle of fall. I'll check into socks.
