Miss Precipitous Payton is Here!

I have long felt like she was going to be extra early and she was. 18 days. Didn't think she was going to be extra fast, but she was! Apparently, she thinks that waiting to arrive at the hospital is not really for her since neither of her siblings were born there. So she decided to come in the car as we were pulling up. Fortunately, DF's son drove us and DF was riding in the back with me and caught her.

My water broke at midnight. Nothing happened, though. At least an hour later I started to get low back pain. Posterior. Not happy. I did cow and cat stretches and dangled myself off the end of my bed 3 times. More of my waters came out after the first inversion. Contractions started around 2:15. And were immediately 3-5 minutes apart. She arrived at 4:36 am.

We are in love! I will have to post a pic once my ipad gets to the hospital. I keep getting an error on my phone.

And she is nursing like a champ already!

She is 6 lb 11 oz and 19". My tiniest baby!!

That is such a nice story. And funny. She wanted to be like her siblings. You are a shining example of how things can go from almost nothing to contractions 5 minutes apart and then baby. How cool. I'm so happy for you!

Four children. Just welcomed our newest member on 2/12!

Another Car Baby! Love it! A friend of mine had her little girl in the hospital parking lot just the other day. These children sure are in a hurry.

So happy your exciting story has such a wonderful ending. Enjoy her!

@TeeThatsMe One of my husbands colleagues also gave birth in the back of her minivan on the way to the hospital just a couple of months ago! and to think I used to say those rushed taxicab births were just in the movies… LOL

Ya know, I can't help but wonder whether there might be an actual uptick in these sorts of births because of the way we expect to be treated at hospitals. If women know, or believe, that they're likely to receive condescension and literal rejection (being sent back home) if they arrive having "failed to make enough progress," or be subjected to unwanted interventions if they arrive after their waters have ruptured; and if so many women are actively counseled to stay away as long as possible, or at least do some complicated calculus surrounding when to go in, in the name of seeking a better birth outcome... wouldn't it stand to reason that many mothers may err on the side of staying away for so long that they end up having dramatic car or car-side arrivals instead? Just a thought.

Sorry to derail the thread, though! PAYTON! Looking forward to seeing some photos.

Tee, I would tend to agree with you that it's definitely a possibility. My OB was telling me today to get straight to the hospital because he's seen with 3rd and 4th labors that they don't follow the established labor patterns of first or second labors. He basically said that if I'm in serious pain to get there and not worry about whether I'm far enough along. I said I would, but actually I was already planning to do just that. If I have a back ache that just won't quit, that's when I plan to go. Back labor is all I ever have, so I know what's coming. I just hope I make it there in time.

Maybe so . . . But, in our case, the fact that the time between the onset of contractions and her arrival was only about 2.5 hours, was definitely a factor. I simply expected that labor would take more time. And it didn't.
