First of all, my little bean is OK and growing on schedule. Long story short, I went in with what I thought was a sprained rib and luckily my doctor was on the ball with things and ended up sending me to the ER, which most likely saved my life. I had multiple bilateral pulmonary emboli, which earned me a ticket straight to the ICU. I spent some time on Heparin initially and was then switched over to twice daily Lovenox injections, which I will continue until probably a couple months post-partum. I'm still feeling weak and so easily winded and tired, it's going to take me several months to recover. I'm just happy to be able to go home and be with my babies again (though of course they visited me there, I got to nurse my 16 month old in the ICU). It's going to be a long road ahead and this pregnancy is now high risk, after 5 wonderfully normal pregnancies and 4 uncomplicated homebirths, but I'm very optimistic.
OH MY WORD!!! This is nuts!! I am soooo happy and relieved to hear that the PEs were caught and you are on the mend. This could have had a VERY different ending. Wow. How do you feel now? What kind of follow up will you have?
Good you are feeling positive after all that, I guess glad to be alive? I have not had to navigate a pregnancy with that high risk designation hanging over me yet, it's a tricky one. I hope you have good support. Are they saying you are risked out of homebirth for this go round? Do they think it's pregnancy related? Do you have thrombosis? Have they done a cancer screen? So many questions.
I just finished reading "Earthing" by Clint Ober and Stephen Sinatra, highly recommend it to you. Earthing aka grounding can thin the blood naturally. Don't rush out and try it if you are on blood thinners, be thoughtful and careful, as it can rapidly (in less than two hours) cause measurable and significant changes in blood viscosity. Pictures of blood cells in the book! Mercola has an article on it, here http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2013/08/04/barefoot-grounding-effect.aspx
I'm sleeping earthed this pregnancy, and walking barefoot a lot more. Now I just need to get proactive with a cable for my computer desk!! Sitting here bathing in an EMF field when I should be sleeping. Made cables out of old extension cords, not hard, bought ohm resistors and alligator clips, cheap at Radio Shack, but kids keep rolling over the one at the computer desk and pulling it apart.
Yes, I'm definitely risked out of homebirth this time, after 4 wonderful homebirths. I'll meet with the high risk OB next week and we'll start fighting out the details and find the middle ground between what they want and what I want. No DVTs, no clotting disorders, just out of the blue.
