Question Early Ultrasounds

I mentioned this in the Intro thread but I thought maybe it deserved a spot of its own. I noticed a few of us have had previous losses and I am wondering when/if you are getting an early ultrasound? I am torn as I really prefer not to get unnecessary ultrasounds but at the same time I think that getting one will put my mind at ease. My last pregnancy was a blighted ovum that I didn't miscarry until I was 16 weeks. I would hate to get to my 12 week appt and find no heart beat . What are you ladies planning? Even if you haven't had a loss I would like to hear all your thoughts and plans

Probably not. I have a regular appointment in 2 weeks. I don't have much of an opinion either way. Maybe when I call with my concerns this week they'll offer one and if they do, I'll take it.

I saw your question in the other thread. I am scheduled for one tomorrow. Not a huge fan but it will be reassuring.

DH is hoping for twins (for some reason?) and during my ultrasounds to confirm I'm ovulating I seem to be ovulating with two eggs regularly (he was pretty excited about that!). They don't run in our family but maybe... Never know. Maybe there will be two sacs.

Amy - Homebirths are awesome! I hope you carry to term so you can have one

MzMargie & Teamviddy - Good luck at your ultrasounds tomorrow ladies! And TV I would love twins too! I don't have any in my family so its extremely unlikely but I would be thrilled! Let us know what they find!

Rosemarino - I think im in the same boat as you. Im in Ontario Canada and here the midwives usually dont see you until 10 weeks. I think when they call with my first appointment I will share my concerns as well and if they offer I will take it.

I assume if my betas stay low, they'll want to do an ultra sound pretty early to see what is wrong. Otherwise, we'll have one around 8weeks...

We have our first appt. Aug 5th and the doctor usually does an intervaginal (??) ultrasound. He will probably do the same this time to verify that it is a viable pregnancy because we experienced a blighted ovum between DS1 and DS2.

I am reassured to hear that you had a successful pregnancy after the BO! I have heard it is very rare to have 2 in a row but its still nice to hear from people like you who have been through it!

I noticed on the TTC board that you are going for your test today and I just wanted to say I'm thinking about you! And keep reminding yourself that everyone is different and lots of women with betas on the low side go on to have healthy pregnancies!

Thank you for thinking of me! I haven't decided it I'll go through with today's test or delay it. It is my birthday and I font want bad news right after it. I might use my last digital poas to see if it has bumped up to the next level on the weeks indicator and them decide.

I am completely unfamiliar with a pg test that can tell you how many weeks you are. How old I must be!

Hey ladies!

I'm trying to decide if I want to go for an early u/s. My regular midwife is out until August (i'd be 8 weeks). I have the option of seeing someone else + having them order the u/s.... but I'm worried about having an early ultrasound that is inconclusive (or worse, conclusively bad) and then FREAKING OUT while my regular midwife isn't around. Not all the midwives in the practice have good bedside manner.

I don't know, I probably would, even without your midwife. Last time (after 2 losses and then a very monitored pregnancy with DD with betas and early and often u/s) I took the low tech approach and did nothing. And had a loss at 8 weeks. I'm going in for betas tomorrow and a u/s around 6-7 weeks. I have to see a heartbeat at the earliest opportunity. All of my losses started with spotting for 1-2 weeks, 2 ended naturally after that, 1 (11 week loss) had to have D&C.

I'm heading for an early ultrasound on Thursday. I'm about 6 weeks and had some spotting so my Dr. said he'd like me to come in to see how everything is going. This is my first pregnancy so I'm so nervous for everything to be on the up and up!!!

I'm with Sleepymama. I have a long history of losses and chemical pregnancies and this is the first that's highly monitored and it is quite reassuring. I know they're not good for baby but I think it lowered my stress level, which IS good for baby . Why is it that so many MDs have such an awful bedside manner, seriously?!

Experiencing a loss definitely adds the worrisome factor to any following pregnancy. I, even after having a successful pregnancy in between, have still been running to the restroom a ton to check for spotting since that was how it started for me. But I remember the reassurance I got too from the mamas in DS1 birth group. In fact they kind of scared me in a different way since both ladies ended up having Twins!!!

Same boat here. Not a fan of ultrasounds really, but after a blighted ovum and not finding out till 12 weeks, a few months ago, I just really want to see a baby in there. I'll feel so much better. I have one scheduled next week and I'll be 8 weeks.

Just to follow up, I decided against pushing for a 6 week ultrasound. I realized there is literally nothing that will make me feel better. My last pregnancy was pretty closely monitored, and I miscarried hours after an "everything looks fine" visit where we heard a nice healthy heartbeat. So I'll wait until I can meet with my midwife at 8 weeks and get an ultrasound then. My appointment is on a Monday so hopefully I can get in for the ultrasound that same week.

Had an u/s this afternoon, nothing could be seen but a gestational sac. THey estimated me at 5 weeks. I'll be a bundle of nerves til they can show me a baby.

unsure. I don't get normal periods so this was an u/s to determine a due date. The tech said the sac measured 5 weeks but she couldnt yet see a fetal pole or anything. She didnt seem concerned or anything but it made me nervous.

I'm measuring 6 days behind. I will be hearing from the midwife today to order another ultrasound, most likely. I'd appreciate your thoughts, prayers, vibes, whatever you do.
