So I had to run unexpectedly to the doctor this morning regarding my blood work I had done. I am RH- and so I am given the rhogam shot during my pregnancies to protect the next pregnancy. Well to make a long story short, somehow, some way, I was exposed to RH+ blood from either Dominic or I had a miscarriage between then and now and didn't know it, and now I am producing RH+ antibodies. What this roughly means is that my body will treat this baby as a foreign substance and attack it as though it is a disease or infection. I will be considered high risk and have to see a specialist. Ive done a lot of reading this afternoon and its pretty optimistic that I'll still be able to carry the baby to the age of viability, but more than likely will have to deliver him/her early to protect it from being attacked. I don't see the specialist until September 2nd and will hopefully know more at that point but please think positive thoughts for us.
