Spotlight update: There are only 6 more DDC members scheduled to be featured now. If you're interested, PM your responses to these questions to me, Littlekind.
(A new spotlight member (or two) will appear every week. If you want to be featured, be sure you're on the July Roll Call or commenting on these spotlight threads.)
Summary (family, partner, due date, boy/girl/unknown, other births - any background you want to share)
I'm 31, soon to be 32. My husband is one year older than I am.
We have a DS (7) and a DD (also 7 - they were born 10.5 months apart!), a 2 year old daughter, and now this final LO joining us to complete the family. My two older kids have a chromosomal difference which makes them gifted but also have some developmental delays. The 2 year old does not have the same issues. We didn't do genetic testing on this LO, but we're anxious to see how she develops...
We also have a kitty named Seraphina.
Where did your user name come from?
When we were in middle school, my best friend and I would make up imaginary countries, complete with flags, languages, you name it. Tiqa was a female name I made up for one of my worlds. It's kind of stuck with me as far as user names go.
What pregnancy "rule" are you breaking? (sushi, sleeping on your back…
I take hot baths pretty much nightly, as I've done for pretty much all my life. Well, not boiling hot... but not lukewarm, either. I never heard about that being a pregnancy "thing" until recently.
Similarly, what forbidden thing are you excited to do once baby arrives?
I can't WAIT to take medicine when I'm sick again, or have anything with mint in it. I've already been pregnant/nursing/pregnant since spring of 2012. Soooo yeah. That's a lot of years without cold medicine!!
What do you love about the area where you live? Are you native or did you move there? (no need to tell us exact location if you don't want to).
We've lived all over the place but have finally settled down (for now) in the Finger Lakes region of NY state. The scenery is beautiful, I'll give it that. But I'm a nomad at heart. I was born in Europe and grew up in New England, moved out to the Rocky Mountains, the Pacific Northwest, and Florida (with a few additional pit stops here and there) before. The husband wants to set down roots a bit more, so that's what we're doing now.
What are you looking forward to in pregnancy and birth?
I can't wait to finally complete our family and put my baby-bearing years behind me. It might be bittersweet, but my health can't take another pregnancy! So I've made peace with that, and I want to get back into shape finally after giving birth this time around.
As for birth itself... I really enjoyed my first two births and the third one was ehhhh not so fun. I'm hesitant to get my hopes up for the fourth one, because it will also be another hospital birth, but... I'm hoping for the best!
What is one of your favorite books?
It changes every minute. Ha. Nowadays I go to the library with a toddler in tow and just throw random books into my bag. I don't even look at them. Then I find out what I got when I get home. Found some really awesome books this way!!
What was the last fun purchase you made?
Some Himalayan salt lamps for our new and improved bedroom. I love the way they cast an orangey glow. I'm also waiting for the spring thaw so I can get some more trees planted!
What is one of your favorite go to recipes?
I rarely cook by official recipe. I just kind of go by categories. Like, soup. I'll throw in whatever veggies we have, some wine and butter and stock, and go to town. Usually comes out pretty good. Same thing with salads - just chop up a bunch of random ingredients - the more varied, the better, and poof, instant yum.
If you could visit anywhere in the world where would you go and why?
I'd probably go to Norway because of the scenery. I'm into nature more than people, if that makes sense.
What was/is your job (before motherhood or currently)?
Well, I guess my main job right now is that of a homeschooling mom. But, I'm also a writer and an editor. I also do some translation. I've had a lot of odd jobs and such - I was trained as a doula, I worked with animals (dogs and horses), I did some accounting. I went to grad school for advocacy. Random stuff like that.
What is one thing you plan on doing differently with this baby? What's one thing you'll do the same?
While I've been pregnant, a lot of our lifestyle ideals (clean eating, rhythm, no screen time, etc.) have slid a bit due to burnout. I want to return to our family value roots after this LO is born. As far as what will be the same - room sharing for the first year or so, hopefully exclusive nursing, lots of together time.
What values/character traits do you want your child(ren) to pick up from you?
Luckily, all of my kids seemed to have picked up my love of reading/learning. I would love for all my children to respect nature and spirituality. I don't know, really - I just like watching them all develop into their own people.
WELCOME T0
