Unequal Pupils?

I recently noticed my little girl is unequal pupil sizes. Her right pupil is a bit smaller than her left (it's not easily noticed, I had to take a picture to make sure I wasn't seeing things). Is this a normal young baby thing? I plan on making an appointment with our pediatric eye doctor just to be sure.

My toddler had this, I did not notice until she was 4 months old. Up to half a cm is normal but, more than that can be, in very rare cases, a sign of Horner's syndrome. An MRI will quickly rule that out for peace of mind. It's almost certainly a congenial condition with no issues associated, just a difference in pupil size. But good to go to an eye specialist to get it measured and if it's significant, an MRI to be sure that it is nothing. Not a fun series of events, I went through that a year or so ago, but the odds are overwhelmingly in your favor that it's nothing so don't get too worried.

Thank you guys! I am going to call our Pediatric Ophthalmologist on Monday and see when he can see her.

Her Daddy has unequal pupils too (not very noticeable) so it might very well be inherited.

That looks like less than 5mm in difference to me, but they will take images in light and dark and measure it to be sure. My daughter had 6mm difference so we did the CT scan which includes putting her under general anesthesia so it was not a fun day but all in all its just a day and then you can relax and forget about it.

Ooooo! And if it gets to that, see if they'll do an MRI instead of a CT (loads less radiation that way.) I learned this after my oldest had a CT after a bad concussion and it's one of the many things I wish I'd known....

Thanks!

I was looking at pictures of my sister and could have sworn her pupils looked different sizes too (in her baby pictures and older pictures) and I asked my Mom to check and her pupils are unequal as well! She's 8 years old. :) I think this time it's genetic, since my Hubby and sister has it, but we're still going to have her eyes checked (we go to the eye Dr. every 3 months anyway for my 3 year old - he has a slight turn).
