jenna- Awesome! I'm so glad to hear good stories so I'm not taking it for nothing! How much are you taking? Powder/capsules?

I'm taking 5 (500mg) capsules in the morning and they are making me sleep bad. I feel too energized. But I don't want to cut back. I should exercise and that would probably counter-act the jitteryness.

Do I need to take a ton of this stuff for it to work? I can't afford that.
seriously, you need to get it online. Whole Foods is WAY too expensive for this. You need at least 2500-3000 mg to get any fertility benefits.

It is no different buying it at whole foods vs online. It is not like its prescription and you are buying it online instead of going to the doctor. Just my 2 cents. Every piece of research I have read has said you need a minimum of 2500 mg to get fertility benefits.

I tend to think the bottles say lower doses due to the fact that it's not approved by the FDA (herbs are not)...I've looked the web over and cannot any side effects other than gas/nausea/diahrea. It's a root (like turnups) that are eaten as a food, so it's relatively safe. Buying it bulk it says 1/2 teaspoon to 1 teaspoon to start with...you can see by comparison that 1/2 tsp would only be about 2-3 Maca capsules.

That was my thought too...and since I'm heavier, I think I'll increase my dose.

:

I found a site that gives more clue to the whole tsp-mg conversion bit: http://www.longevityplus.com/store/p...?productid=494

Supplement Facts
Serving Size: 1/2 to 1 teaspoon
Ingredient Amount Per Serving % Daily Value
Maca (Lepidium meyenii Walp) tuber powder: 1 teaspoon = 3,466 mg *
*Daily Value not established.

HTH! I took 1 tsp this a.m. and I'm thinking of doing another tonight if my stomach's ok.

That's great SchwarmaQueen! I just weighed some maca powder at a friend's house today on her kitchen scales and got this:

1 Tbsp= 10,000mg
1tsp= 4000mg
1/2tsp = 2000mg

Awesome! Just curious (and so I'm aware), were your spoons "heaping" or leveled?

But that is just the weight, is the mg of the maca different then just the weight? See now I am confused.

I am confused to. I think I'm overanalyzing it too. Weight (grams, milligrams) = dosage in this case, or volume (teaspoon) if you go by that method.

Right?

well it is like my 500 mg of vitex is not 500 mg weight, but rather the herb dosage. I am just going to take 2 tsp. PLEASE GOD, I WANT TO O.

Grams and milligrams measure weight. It's helpful for me to know because my body doesn't seem to be able to handle much maca, only about a tsp! So I'm glad to know a tsp is the right amount!

And it was level measurements I used.

It might be a little early to call this, but I think I O'd earlier this month! I had a feeling about it and this morning my temps rose and my cervix is firm and closed! So now we'll see what the next few days bring, but if so, I could get used to this!

Do you all keep taking your maca (and at the same dosage) during the TWW?

And an update for anyone who's following us guinea pigs...my O was right on schedule this month. I can't say I have noticed a single change in anything with the maca. Although a BFP would be a welcome change...:

Mom-to-JJ, your timing looks great!!!

As for me: today is the first day I took the powder- I took a level tablespoon mixed in water and just took it as a shot. It wasn't so bad, it tasted like babyfood carrots. . Here's hoping it causes me to O !!!
