Hi Ladies,

Just curious how many there are of us 40 or over who are ttc?

I turned 40 in August and have a 26 month-old ds and dh and I are ttc #2.

This is my second cycle of ttc, d11 and I got two marks on my monitor this morning; so, I;m expecting the O in a few days and then the horrid 2ww. How is it that just a couple of weeks can seem like years?

Me!

I will turn 41 next week. If we get PG this cycle, it means I will have concieved around my birthday and my due date will be DH's birthday :LOL
I had a MC this past November, at about 8-9 weeks. I had a feeling it was going to happen though, not sure why. So, I am a bit anxious about trying again because of that, as well as my age. But I know in my heart I was meant to have 3 children. Luckly, I have gotten PG on the first try each time.

dabunnytoo, it looks like we will be doing our 2WW together!

It's great to see so many older Mamas. Wow.

Happy Birthday to you all.

That's kind of odd that all three of your birthdays are so close together.

Kerlowyn, I'm so sorry about your m/c. I know how devastating that can be. I had one before my first ds was conceived, albeit a very early one.

I know Velveteen is in the 2ww, too.

Polka, where are you in the cycle?

Wouldn't that be awesome if we all got pregnant this cycle?

I am wondering, for those with children, how many cycles did it take you to conceive??
This is my fourth try, and I am starting to think it may not happen. What do you all think??
I still cycle very regularily, and have all the good fertility symptoms. My husband is in good health after a skin cancer scare.
Please reassure me!

Oh, Polka, with a 6-month-old, I guess it could take a while.

Of course there was a woman in one of my old playgroups who got pregnant at 2 months PP and then again at 3 months PP. She was nursing #1 when she got pregnant with #2 and was tandem nursing when she got pregnant with #3. She had three children under the age of three. YIKES!

There just seems to be no rhyme or reason to this fertility business.

Velveteen, you certainly still could be pregnant. Maybe you just tested too early. Maybe try temp charting this month or an OPK. I think with a lot of us older Mamas that we have to take advantage of the time closest to ovulation because perhaps our cervical fluid is not as plentiful and not as hospitable to sperm for as long a period of time as our younger sisters.

I am 40 years old and I'm trying to conceive for the first time in my life. Also, I stayed away from birth control pills only to find out that they preserve fertility... Dang! If they'd only told me that when I was twenty-two!

This is my third cycle...

My OBGYN says that at my age the average length of time it takes for me to get pregnant is eighteen months! Sheesh.

What the heck is that based on?

Have you read TCOYF? I read that when we were ttc#1. I was 37. It was such a great book. It helped me feel a little more in control of things. I haven't temp charted this time. I use one of those Clear Blue Easy monitors. This is my second cycle.

You'll get tons of support here. This is a wonderful group of Mamas.

I hope your stay is short.

Count me in. We have been trying for awhile...last month was the first time I got two lines on the ovulation test. We should be trying right now, but dh isn't feeling well. I don't know what that should have to do with anything:

BTW, I am 41 and hoping we conceive without doing anything special, like drugs or progesterone. I am nursing my ds, before bed and in the morning, sometimes another couple times during the day.

I am getting a little nervous because it is taking this long.

Oh, my goodness, Joan, not feeling well is no excuse. My dh and I had a spat when it was my time and didn't make up till the next morning and I think we missed it. I'm so bummed. I think as we get older we have to make the most of EVERY opportunity. From now on ovulation time with be a no-argument zone around here!

Do you think you weren't ovulating or did you just miss it?

Do you chart temps and observe signs?

I hope we soon have a Pregnant Mamas 40+ thread!!!!!!!!!

I used the OPK for three months, only last month did I get a positive. I didn't get one this month...we have had a lot going on this month. I conceived dd after just 4 cycles, ds was trickier. It took two cycles after an ectopic pregnancy. I am also not charting at this time. I know I should, and probably will if I am not pregnant soon. We have been trying this time for almost a year...but some months I thinked we missed it, which is why I wanted to use the OPK.

I hate it when something interferes with trying! Here is alot of baby dust for everyone.

I just wing it :
But I am lucky in that I know exactly when I am fertile. I can usually predict the day, then DH and I plan on 3 days before and 3 days after of

We cosleep with DS2. He used to nurse to sleep, then DH or I would put him in his crib, where he would sleep for at least 2-4 hours. Then when he woke up he would sleep the rest of the night in our bed. However, he has flatly refused to spend any time in his crib, unless it is during the day when he plays with his little stuffed animals. So, DS has been in our bed all night for about 2 months now. When DH and I want to we have to move to the floor!!:LOL
These old bones don't do well on the floor! We had to get a pile of blankets!!

We are getting DS a twin bed this weekend.

hi polka 123. I'm an Aries (April 14).

I've had it in my mind that I want to be pregnant before I turn 41! (I was married at 35, PG at 36, had a baby at 37, PG at 38, had a baby at 39 - so I need to get PG at 40!) - which means that this is the cycle!!

A pregnant Mommas over 40 thread would be awesome!

Do any of you have far apart spaced children?? Were your pregnancies different?

I had my first DS when I was 30. I had my second DS when I was 39. (I was a single mom in-between).
My first labor was 4 days! 3 at home trying to have a home birth and the last day was in the hospital. My second one was 3 cm to birth in 45 minutes
With my first, I had a perfect pregnancy. With my second I was GBS + : and had horrible pain from my pelvis separating. I had to leave my job a month early and go on temporary disability. I am dreading having that happen again, and I know it will.

Welcome to all of you who have joined the thread!

Happy B day again Kerowlyn!

Yes, my children are almost 5 years a part. Ben was born one month before Ellie turned 5. I was in labor with dd for 4 days also! 44 hours to be exact, over 4 days. Ben was an "emergency" c section...due to my water breaking and his being head and legs up (in a laying position). It was very quick with him. But he was fine, big healthy boy, it was my recovery that was harder. He was 9 lbs, 14 oz. Ellie was 7 lbs., 6 oz.
But my dh was a twin and they were EACH over 6 lbs...he was almost 7 lbs.
My kids are great together and play a lot. We are hoping to be pregnant soon, but I know it is not exactly in my control.

I am sorry your homebirth didn't turn out as you wanted. Will you try again?

Thank you Mom4tot! DH and I hope to celebrate by...well, you know, it's why we are all here :LOL

When I got PG with DS2, I thought about trying a home birth again. But then I realized that where I gave birth was not as important to me as who I was with. My HB midwife had recommended to me an OB to use as back up with my first birth. He was and still is a staunch supporter of HB. He had a team of 5 midwives in his practice. When I ended up transporting to the hospital, it was as their patient, so it was all hassle free. I went to a few prenatals before the birth too, and loved all the MW's.

So, when I was PG again and knew my home birth MW had retired, I went to the group of MWs. By then, they were on their own and not with the OB (he stopped doing OB and is now only doing GYN) I got everything I wanted more or less. I wanted a waterbirth, but had the baby before the tub was full!

My 4 day labor when I was younger was a LOT harder to recover from then my fast labor at 39. I never understood those women who could go to the store 2 days after having a baby, till I had DS2! Then, that was me

Thought it would be nice if all of us 40 plus ttc'rs kept track of each other.
I am starting all over today, but I am cheering the rest of you on! I need to hear of someone from this group with a BFP!

Yes, it would be nice to keep track of each other...

After tonight I will begin the two week wait. This is our first cycle of trying since my MC in November. I am a bit worried, I have not 'felt' like I O'ed this cycle. I usually get pain on one side or the other, but this time, no pain. I guess we will see what happened in 2 weeks

I have been taking my prenatal vits when I remember, but it's so hard! :LOL DH has to IM me during the day to remember!
for all of for a

That's a great idea to keep track of each other. Let's put our status in the top line so that we can keep up with where we are in our cycle.

I'm looking forward to that Pregnant 40+ thread........
