Since Saturday I've had super faint positives on FRER. I also have a uti that just started. I can't hold my wee for more then 3 hours if I'm lucky. Went to dr's today for uti and I wee'd when I got up, then again before I left the house, then again an hour later, then 5 minutes or so after that, I had to wee for the doc. Was told their preggy test has no and was I sure I saw it correctly at home and even if I went 30 seconds before giving them a sample it'd still show up and yadda, yadda, yadda.
Saw the doc herself. Explained it all to her. No a uti would not give me a false positive but going before giving a sample shouldn't do it either. So she happily gave me the blood test. Won't have results untile Tuesday or so. But, get this, I held until I got home an hour and a half later, dollar store test is positive.
So, 6 FRER's said yes, $$ store said yes, cycle is 3 days late, but since doctor test said no, not preggy. WTH?!
I think the early tests are more sensitive than the doctor's tests actually.
Also how are you taking the test? Are you using a new cup or is it straight outta the mommy? Are the tests expired?
I got positive tests using an old container that previously had positive urine in it a year ago. Even though washed it had crevices that apparently stuck. I bought a new container and no more positives
I also had a chemical a few months ago that was barely there on many home tests. I bet the dr would have seen it as a negative too. I'm pretty sure I read they don't standardly use the early detection tests.
Uh. It comes fresh from the source? I do use a new cup when I decide to dip. I have the little dixie cups. But I'm also up all through the night going and going. The only time I got a decent dark line was yesterday morning when I was able to hold out for 5 hours.
Tests aren't expired. In fact 3 of them were from 3 different lot numbers/packages. I also went ahead and got a Clear Blue +/- test for the heck of it.
Hugs to you. I'm sorry you went through that with the cup and chemical.

this... plus that the doctors test usually tests for an amount 2 to 8 times higher than FRER (depending on what test the doctor uses and what sensitivity you think FRER has, the 25miu or 12.5miu)
So even if your FRER is dark, you could feasibly get a stark white negative on the doctors test.
I have experienced it myself, as have other women I have seen here, having a line that is faint show up in the doctors office... told to go home... and as you are walking out they stop you with WAIT! ITS POSITIVE!
agree with all the above, BUT, if you have had super faint lines since saturday, something is not right. a super faint line should be a faint line the next day and a reasonably solid line the day after that, and a pretty good line by 6 days later. for sure hpts are not definitive for interpreting blood levels, but over 6 days, you should be able to tell something. i had a positive wondfo (and not super faint, just faint but thick and clearly pink) with a beta of 12. doubling every 48 hours or so, 6 days later it would be 100-ish, and that would be blaring on a frer. holding your pee makes no difference either. by 3 days late, it would be unusual (but not impossible) not to have a quickly and surely positive hpt, even with dilute urine. you may be seeing the antibody strip. good luck, stranger things have happened, and being 3 days late for af adds to the mystery, but it is puzzling why it is still super faint.
chrissy- it would help a lot if you post pics, or put them up on canyouseealine.com, and post the link.
but here's what im talking about with the progression over the course of a few days. the first link is my test from thursday (8 dpo - very faint, but pink and came up within 30 seconds- positive. the second link is my test today, 2 days later. (neither test is done with "held pee" either- the bladder is only a recepticle- once urine is deposited there, it doesnt get more concentrated no matter how long you hold it.) i had a questionable test on 7 dpo, a guess it was a squinter, but i didnt take a picture of it because i figured i would know the next day either way.
but you are saying the tests arent getting darker, right? some women have a baseline hcg themselves, without being pg, of up to 5, especially can happen with women at the older end of the ttc spectrum. i think either this is what is going on, or more likely, you are seeing evaps or antibody strips ($trees are infamous for them, and i dont like frers for that reason as well.)
Thanks ladies. Yes the test lines are getting darker. This mornings CB was instant + sign and frer was blazingly positive. Also took a digital this afternoon and it has "Pregnant" on it.
I tossed my earlier tests in the trash as I was getting peeved but I have todays. Will get pics up of them here soon.
ETA: Had to use laptop cam. Pics aren't great. They look better in person. Specially Thursdays.

Most doc offices buy the cheapest test out there (for a doc office) which has a threshold of 40. The OTC kind are more sensitive. Also, if you have a UTI, it is possible that you were just going so frequently that you did not have a chance to build up the HCG in your urine.
If the home tests say positive, CONGRATS!!!! Your doc will call Tues and confirm what you know now. I have actually had morning sickness and a neg test at the MD office.
Thanks a bunch ladies! I'll update with whatever the bloodwork says. My mind just went "out there" as I had a loss 2 cycles ago. So, yea, was not happy with dr's office. lol
Yeah, if the CBE digital says "Pregnant" then I believe it! I my experience those have been the least sensitive of the OTC tests I've used.
And I had the same thing happen...positives 3 days in a row (line getting darker) then I went to the doctor and their's was negative. Their "negative" is now 16 months old, lol!
