Hi! I hope everyone is doing well. I just wanted to say that I am pretty sure I conceived this pregnancy (my first) on or about the day my (former) gynecologist told me that at 250 lb I was too fat to get pregnant. :) She also told me I would be likely to have a miscarriage because of my weight. 12 weeks and counting... Good luck to all here who are TTC!

First baby due Oct/Nov 2011. Slowly finding my way...

Hello!! love.gif

Congrats, nmouse! That's wonderful news!

Everything is going wonderfully with my little bean! 12 weeks today! Been having some morning sickness - and I've lost 16 pounds!! Under 200, now. How crazy is that??

I wanted to share than I had a pretty good initial gyno appointment and I weigh over 300 lbs.

Doc did suggest I lose weight but just 10 lbs, to possibly kickstart hormones. As long as this isn't the start of some evil plan where she then tells me that I have to keep losing, so far so good.

Also, she mentioned things like insulin resistance causing infertility, but in a totally non-judgmental "we can fix that" sort of way.

So there are some good doctors out there that aren't going to tell you that you shouldn't get pregnant. Sorry you had that experience, nmouse, way to stick it to her! :)

Boots I am so glad you like your gyno and feel supported by her. It really is possible to find great caregivers out there if we keep looking. These days I am on the hunt for an experienced, fat-friendly midwife, fingers crossed.

There's a great book by Gary Taubes called Why We Get Fat and he covers insulin resistance. It's an awesome and pretty quick read; I'd suggest checking it out! I just read it this year and really enjoyed it.

AFM, I'm still battling morning sickness and I really hope it's going to subside, soon.... and I weighed myself this morning and I'm back to 202. I'm hoping that once the morning sickness fades I'll be able to go back to eating the things I like that are a bit healthier than what I have been eating. But, for a while there is was eat what sounds good or starve. Probably how I lost 16 pounds in 5 weeks!

I just saw this thread.  I want to look at the resources later and don't want to lose the thread off the first page.  I am hoping to test tomorrow although since this is my first cycle of BCP's and i started doing my BBT a couple weeks after my last AF, I am not truly sure when I O'd.  I love my family practitioner who told me, no my weight shouldn't put me in any high risk categories unless I was to get gestational diabetes.

I just saw a photo of my great-grandmother (my mom's grandma) and it uncanny how much I look like her.  She had 8 babies by the time the photo was taken.  She was a lot heavier than I am.  I never met her because she passed away when my mom was a little girl.

I am thankful for my good cholesterol and I am aiming to eat more veggies and fruit with whole grains.  I am a vegetarian that LOVES BREAD.  yeah, it is my nutritional downfall - just too much bread.  My DH and I go walking for 30 minutes almost every day. Life is good and I am looking forward to adding a baby to the picture!

Got a big fat NEGATIVE this morning on the HPT.  That is okay.  Once I get my AF then I can start planning for the next month.  I really didn't want a baby at the end of January anyway!

Had to laugh at my mom's comment this morning.  "If you want to get pregnant you have to keep track of when you are "slippery" in the middle of the month along with when AF comes."  Yep, slippery it is!

Interesting article about metformin and obese mothers having "obese babies."

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-1384801/Pregnant-women-given-drugs-prevent-babies-born-obese.html?ITO=1490

I've read a lot of really fatphobic stuff about pregnancy from the UK lately...

How many of you have cycles longer than 30 days?  I was reading some of the resources that say bigger women have longer cycles from 35 days to greater lengths.  My husband, bless him, doesn't understand that my 28 day cycles from birth control pills before TTC won't likely happen now that I am off BCPs.  So far I am at cycle day 34 and my temp is higher today then it has been since I started TTC.  I haven't felt anything different, besides nausea which I think is due to some allergy problems messing with my ears and equilibrium.

Lilac, not me. I'm at 27/28 days on the nose. Except for this month, I got a random 24 day cycle!

I had longer cycles but they varied so it would be 28-31 days, but sometimes up to 40 days. Then a surgeon removed an enormous and apparently long-standing cyst off my ovary, and immediately afterward I got pregnant, so I'm not sure what it would be without the cyst. Longer cycles and higher body weights can be a symptom of PCOS, which can cause fertility problems and shows up a distinctive way on ultrasound scan. Those fertility probs are treatable though. If you do have an irregular cycle, regardless of cause, I recommend trying the Wondfo OPK strips on Amazon. They are super cheap so you can start early in your cycle and pee on them till you get a positive. They work best in the early afternoon. That plus keeping track of slippery days lets you know when to do it! Also if you lash an cheap digital watch alarm to your thermometer with saran wrap or tape you may have a better chance of getting the thermometer all the way into your mouth at the same time each morning. It sounds silly but was the only way I was finally able to do a proper temp chart and confirm when I was ovulating.

Bumping this!

Started on metformin a few weeks ago for insulin resistance and high sugars.  Feeling good but think I got my period today on CD19? Very bizarre.
