My cosleeping baby was restless all night.  I never got a long stretch of sleep.  Then I took my temp at the normal time.  Just curious how that kind of night affects temperature.  Would the temp usually be lower than usual, or higher than usual?


My temps had been up around 98.5 and 98.6.  After last night it was lower around 97.9.  I wold have thought that the temp would be higher after a night of no sleep, right?  Curious about others' thoughts.  thanks!

I've been charting for years while nursing and night waking.  My temps are more erratic than they were before I had children, but I can still clearly see a biphasic pattern each cycle.  Ordinarily a very bad night of little to no sleep results in a slightly higher temperature for me.  For example, I'm usually in the 96.9-97.4 range pre-O and a bad night might jump it to 97.8 or 97.9.  But I think a lot has to do with the last block of sleep you get before temping.  If that block lets me make it into REM sleep for a bit, my temp will be lower.  I just mark it on my chart so I know to disregard it if necessary.

It should be higher than usual if you are not fully rested. Your awake body temperature is around 98.6, but your resting temperature is always lower.

It can vary from person to person. I'm not typically affected by that. As long as I get a decent stretch right before I wake up (3 hours is ideal but less than that doesn't really affect me either), it doesn't change much.  That's a very big drop to have. If it was taken at the same time as the previous nights, I can't imagine that a restless nights sleep would cause that much of a drop.  Are you somewhere in your cycle where you might expect a temp drop?

I wonder the same thing. I always wake one time during the night to use the bathroom. I've been temping right when I wake up at that time, then going to the bathroom and going back to sleep. I've been wondering if the different times that I wake for that is more detrimental to my temps than if I were just to get up and use the bathroom, go back to sleep and then temp at my alarm?
