Hi everybody, I'm a long-time lurker, but have never posted here before.
We're TTC #2, and I need some help interpreting. I got a positive OPK on May 14, and there's a good chance we could have caught the egg, but then on the 20th I started having some spotting (at that point I was thinking implantation spotting) that eventually turned into fairly heavy bleeding for a day, then two days of very light bleeding.
I've taken pregnancy tests today and yesterday and gotten BFNs, but didn't get a positive with DS until 11dpo, so that doesn't mean much yet.
It was way too early to be my period, and about half the length of my usual periods, but seems too heavy to have been implantation bleeding. Any insights? Thanks in advance!
Do you temp/chart cervical fluid or just use OPK's? If you do chart, can you share the link? What type of OPK are you using... the +/- kind or the dye strips? How old is your dc? Does s/he still nurse, co-sleep, night wake? How many pp cycles have you had?
So a couple thoughts, without temping (or the ability to feel O) you don't know for sure when or even if you ovulated. OPK's just indicate your body is gearing up to O, but that could happen several times in a cycle where ovulation is delayed for some reason. The dye strips are something you need to do several days in a row to see the gradual darkening and pinpoint the peak, then they get gradually lighter again. Generally ovulation occurs within 24-36 hours after the peak, but again, without temping or the ability to feel O, you can't confirm. I've seen on these boards that a lot of women have trouble with the straight +/- kind b/c it's not clear if the + indicates the peak day or one of the other build-up or down days. So again, pinpointing O is difficult... it may have occurred earlier or later than you think.
If your dc is still nursing, nightwaking, etc. and/or if you haven't had AF back for very long it's possible your cycles are not be as regular as you think. Again, without temping you don't know how long your luteal phase is. It's possible that it's shorter than you realize.
The reason I bring this all up is that there are several possibilities here. Your ovulation day could have been a little earlier than you thought, and/or your LP could be shorter right now, which could explain an earlier than usual AF. I sometimes experience a lighter AF when my cycle is shorter. Or, of course, you could be pregnant and getting implantation bleeding. While my implantation bleeding experience was a pinprick of red blood, others have said they had several days of spotting or light bleeding. Or you could be experiencing bleeding around the time of AF and still be pregnant. Lastly, you could be experiencing annovulatory/breakthrough bleeding, which could be lighter and occurs in a cycle where you don't ovulate.
But if you did O when you thought (15th-16th) then you'd be 8-9 DPO and could test quite soon! Keep us updated!
