Shell77, well, it sounds like you've already covered your bases if you think you're ovulating today! What we do is, just BD every day for a few days before O, then again on O day, then maybe once or twice more in the day or two after O just to be sure. Even if you weren't temping reliably or able to use an OPK this month, were you able to read your body's signals? Did you have EWCF, increased sex drive, O pains? Do you check your cervix? I'm sure you already know about this book, but Taking Charge of Your Fertility will really help you figure all of this out. Here's the list of supplements my nutritionist recommended to my DH:

Vitamin D -- 1,000 IU per day (DH was taking much more than that, because of his deficiency -- can your DH be tested? Vit D is crucial to fertility)

B Complex -- use dosage on bottle

High quality multi-vitamin such as Metagenics

CoQ10 -- 300 mg per day

Acetyl-L-Carnitine -- 1,500 mg per day

High quality fish oil such as Nordic Naturals Ultimate Omega (use dosage on bottle)

Zinc -- 40 mg per day

If your DH is taking Metagenics or other high quality multi-vitamin, he should check the label to see how much zinc and B vitamins it contains. It may have enough B vitamins and zinc in it that he doesn't need any additional supplementation for those.

I felt a little cramping the day he had to get his SA  So we did that night ... and then we skipped yesterday to get his S level up... then again this morning and I feel a little crampy today :-) My calendar say's I am suppose to O on the 15th ... I really never have that much EWCM so we use Pre-seed , and I always seem to have strong sex drive,And I am not real sure how to check my cervix.... I have heard about that book and keep hoping every month I dont need it :-/ But I will download it to my nook today :-) ... DH is only taking Blood Pressure meds .. and he is horrible about taking pills.. So I should go buy them and make a pill box for him! ,,, I am on hold with the Dr. office as I am typing this... nervous and excited all at the same time.... Thank You for the list I have copied and saved them in my notes ... well Hopefully I hear something soon to let you know how his SA went.

Litmama, glad to see your update. I hope all continues to go well for you.

Active swimmer vibes to you Shell77!

AFM, still haven't tested. Had some pinkish discharge today, and thought it might be the start of a very late AF. It makes me want to test, because if it's BFN, I'll stop using the progesterone cream. But I'm not quite ready for a BFP...so, still in limbo!

Good vibes to everyone!

Miss_sonja have you tested yet? Your will power is great!! lol I went through like 15 test last cycle, because I was so late!

AFM : I AM SO MAD!! so I never heard from the nurse on Thursday or Friday so I had to wait the whole weekend... I finally get a phone call today and they have lost my results and she said the doctors wont be in till wednesday so they will try and call me then angry.gif.

I did feel like I ovulated this weekend and so does DH (he say's it feels different) and I have been having a little light crampy dull feeling on my right side, SO hopefully his swimmers are good or at least hope we have caught 1 good one winky.gif.

I really dont understand how the Doctors office can be so care free with my hopes and dreams... I mean we paid out of pocket for that test and now they cant find the results!!!!

Hope everyone is doing good!

Shell I would be furious! Losing your results is just not acceptable. I do hope that all goes well with the test.

AFM, now I am wishing I had tested:-(. AF of some sort seems really to have kicked in today. If I had tested, at least I would know for sure if it was a chemical PG. This throws off my next O dates too.

But...I was feeling a lot of ambivalence ... wondering if I was doing the right thing for my girls, to try for another. So, maybe it's all for the best. If nothing else, I'm ok with not being PG...and I would have been ok with it otherwise. I'm really trying to keep in a state of openess to whatever the universe/God gives me.

best wishes to everyone!

In the mean time... I am still feeling crampy on the right side... seems like I am having a lot of ovulation cramps this cycle... and they are lasting a long time.

How far are you from the doctor's office or the lab that performed your test? I'd go in and pick up a copy. Making you wait to hear from the doctor on Wednesday when anybody can read that result to you over the phone is bs.

Fingers crossed for you. I've waited for that test too.

As far as I know the lab cannot refuse to give you your results, BTDT, if you feel like pushing it. I even picked up my FSH etc bloodwork when the RE wanted me to wait a week for the numbers at my next appt.

Shell, I'm sorry you're getting the runaround. I find this kind of treatment not only annoying but also patronizing and disrespectful. I agree with Buzzer -- at the end of the day, they can't refuse to provide you with access to your own medical records, which you have both a legal and an ethical right to. At my hospital, they do the same thing... they tell you the doctor will call with the results. If you accept that answer, that's where they'll leave it. But, all you have to do is press them further and they have to give you the results. At my hospital, the lab won't provide results, but the call center and the advice nurses will. I've encountered a wide range of responses which varies from individual to individual, ranging from "here's your number.." to "your doctor will call you with that." When I encounter non-divulgers, what I do is tell them that while I look forward to hearing my doctor's interpretation of the results, right now all I need is the number. If they won't budge, tell them you plan to request your medical records. And then request them! I got all the records related to my current ectopic pregnancy within 24 hours, and it was very illuminating and empowering to read through it!

BB And Litmama : Thank you! If I dont hear from my doctor in the morning I plan on just walking into the office and demand them!... even if they did just give me the numbers I am not sure I would know how to interpret them,But I will become very demanding tomorrow!! I feel that if his swimmers are good then ((hopefully)) we hit a jack pot this past weekend! My problem is also that I am RH negative ... So my blood tries to fight my baby, so I have to get immuglobulin shots ... I have miscarried early and bled in the beggining with all of my pregnancy's. I am so worried about EVERYTHING !!! Well Hopefully I will have news tomorrow ... How is everyone else doing?

Litmama, how are you doing, physically and in spirit? Have your pg symptoms ended. I've been thinking of you.

Shell 77, I'm sorry you are going through that. I hope you get the info tomorrow. My RE's office manager emailed me a copy of some of my test results last week. The purpose was to get them to my TCM person, but I kept a copy for myself.

I'm having blood test blues myself today. The results came back. All of mine are normal except the vit D, which my TCM person tells me is true for most people. My dh's testosterone is low and I don't know what that means. It is excrutiating imagining that I have been doing so much and the "problem" could be him. He is a real minimalist on health care. He has been taking vit. C at my request. He also has a pretty healthy diet and exercises. What is really annoying is it seems that they didn't test for MTHFR, even though I specifically asked for that. The v-leiden and factor 2 are normal. Also very annoying is that the doctor wants me to come in or pay for a phone consult to discuss these results and the next step. The original appointment was very expensive and it had been my assumption based on experience and the way the doctor spoke to me, that we would complete our discussion when we had these results. If I'd known interpreting these results with her would have cost me I would have asked a lot more "what if" type questions. Bleah. On the good side, my TCM person was very impressed with my Estradiol, FSH, and thyroid numbers. In a way that was very nice to hear. In another way, I'd love a better answer than bad eggs due to age--and apparently quite a lot of them. I have had 6 BFPs that have not resulted in a baby, plus many, many other pgs I suspect are chemicals. I keep getting older. I turn 45 in 2 months.

So I told you all I was ovulating... so I was sitting here and had a sharp pain for a second in my uterus ,,, now it just feels heavy ( am I crazy?)

Waturmama~

Low Vitamin D is definitely NOT a good thing!

I spoke to a holistic fertility clinic nurse and she said that the first thing they do is test for D and supplement, if needed, to get levels up.  The recommended range from the Vitamin D Council is 50-80-ng/ml.  Since D is a hormone precursor (not really a vitamin), it could be a factor in your husband's low testosterone as well.

D3 is cheap and you can buy it on Amazon or iherb.  I like NOW brand or Carlson's gel caps.  Most folks need 1000 IUs per 25 lbs of body weight to maintain.  I needed to take 12,000 IUs for 3 months to get my levels up, then I maintain on 8,000 IUs--but everyone is different.

Here's a blog post with the Vitamin D Council newsletter included about D in Pregnancy: http://www.sondrarose.com/vitamin-d-deficiency-pregnancy

Shell, any luck with the results? I don't think you're crazy, either! It sounds like it could be implantation pains. I had those with my DD and have with other chemical pregnancies, too.

WaturMama, I'm so sorry to hear about your DH's low hormone results, and that it's bringing you down. ((( hugs ))) Interesting... no one ever thought to test my DH (we just did an SA and some genetic stuff). I've heard that low testosterone can be stress-related and also environmental. I wonder if TCM could help? I hear you about dealing with a partner who's a health minimalist... my DH is the same way. I have gotten him on board with supplements (I set up a phone consult for him with my nutritionist, then went out and bought all the supplements for him, and gave him a list of what to take every day) but not with TCM. I am glad, though, to hear that your own results were normal. My understanding of Vitamin D deficiency is, as your TCM person said, super common and easily fixed. When I discovered my own deficiency, my nutritionist recommended 2,000 IU per day, and I took 4,000 for 3 months before I got my BFP. I use Carlson's D drops. I'm right behind you birthday-wise... I turn 44 in a couple of months. I just keep reminding myself that it can and does happen for many women our age and older... I have a friend who experienced many miscarriages between ages 42 and 45, then got pregnant (naturally) with a keeper at 45. She just birthed her beautiful little girl a few weeks ago. I printed a picture she sent to me of herself BFing her newborn, and am keeping it in my wallet. I love to look at her beautiful, beaming face with the wisdom of her years glowing and showing in the little crinkles around her eyes and the silver threads woven through her hair.

Thank you for asking, I'm doing okay in body and spirit. I went through a couple of days over the weekend where I felt really awful physically (the methotrexate gave me nausea, diarrhea, dizziness, exhaustion) and that seemed to also allow an emotional grieving process to begin. DH and I watched a great foreign film and there was a scene where a man and woman make love, and in the middle she tells him she's pregnant. Boy, did that ever open the floodgates for me! I cried all weekend. After focusing mostly on having made it through this scrape with all my equipment intact, I was finally able to focus on the loss. Physically, I'm getting over the side effects of the drug (although am still exhausted). My post D&C bleeding only lasted a couple of days, and I had several dry days. But then after the methotrexate kicked in I started bleeding again, much heavier. I realized that I am now experiencing my true miscarriage. After the D&C, I still had a living embryo and working placenta somewhere which had started thickening my endometrium again. It wasn't until my body realized this pregnancy was really over, that it finally let go. It does feel cathartic to be going through this. I go for acupuncture tomorrow, and I'm hoping my TCM doc can help protect my ovaries from the drug, and can help me get my cycle back on track sooner than later. BTW, I sent you a PM about my experience with injectables and IUI. Hope it helps to hear about another mama's experience, though it may have been very different from what you would experience.

One frustration I'm having is my severely limited diet... I'm already gluten-free and on a warming diet (so nothing cold or raw). Now add to that, no fruits or vegetables until my hCG reaches zero (the folate would block the methotrexate). I feel incredibly unhealthy and starved for fiber and nutrients. I'm realizing that healthy veggie dishes were my comfort foods. Perhaps I'll head over to the loss boards and see if there are any ectopic sisters who can help me figure out what the heck to eat!

Thank you lovestolearn. I am definitely planning to supplement. I didn't meant to say it was a good thing, just that I wasn't super alarmed because clearly a lot of people are getting pg with low vit D. I think I am also not super alarmed, because my number wasn't super low, and I did have one to-term pg resulting in a very healthy child. Thank you for the idea about the testosterone, too. I wish we had tested his vit D levels...

Hi All .... So I FINALLY got a call from my doctor and she said that the SA was normal... on the other hand she said that his swimmers appeared to be a little slow... but nothing to worry about and that she doesnt think its that at all! so any advice on what to do about slow swimmers?? Of course I am focusing on the negative ((what is wrong with me?))

So my Ovulation cramping stopped today.. so I guess I am on my 2 ww , Oh I REALLY hope it took this time... I am going to start DH on supplements everyday maybe wake up his swimmers a bit and get them moving faster! My Doctor wants to wait till march when i have my sono before she starts me on any treatments. So anyway all in all good news I suppose redface.gif

Waturmama : I would think that just taking more vitamin D supplements and maybe spending more time in the sun would help, Im going to follow Litmama's advice on the supplements for my DH as well!

Litmama : I am still praying for you

Waturmama - when I had all those blood tests done, my vit d was a little on the low side too - which seems weird as I live in Australia and we get loads of sunshine! My Doctor said it is incredibly common. From what I understand, I think the modern diet and lifestyle contribute to it. I'm hoping the paleo eating (healthy fats) will help, but I'm also taking a supplement and give it to DH too(and he hasn't had his levels tested, I  just decided he'd have it too!).My Vit D levels were 74 I think, so not too low, but I take 1000 iu daily, and at this time of year I'm getting even more sun - we are having a beautiful summer.

LitMama - I am glad that you are able to emotionally start dealing with your loss, though I wish you didn't have to go through this. It is so hard, I know, and it doesn't help that you can't eat your comforting vegies. Is it all vegetables and fruit? Do you make bone broth? I imagine it would be very soothing and would help you get well too.I usually make mine with vegies, but you could easily omit them.

Shell, sorry to hear you don't have the test results, but maybe you have proof of a decent sperm count going on in your belly right now. Your cramping etc sounds promising.I also had that with my pregnancies.

AFM, I had a positive opk yesterday, and thanks to my DS moving to a new phase - he is in a bed of his own now after co-sleeping with me- my DH and I are having a "honeymoon" of sorts. Just sleeping in the same bed has made a difference. So I have my fingers (and everything else) crossed that the timing is right, the egg is ripe, and the sperm are strong.I'm 45, but it doesn't feel too late for me.

Shell - looks like we crossed posts.

It's good to hear that your DH's count was normal. Did she give you a number?

My DH had a vasectomy reversal, so I found out a tonne about sperm health. I was a member on a vasectomy reversal site and I got this information about sperm health:

Dr. Marks Sperm Healthy Life-Style Guidelines:

1. No heat to the groin area. This includes no hot tubs, hot showers, Jacuzzis or hot saunas. It takes 74 days to make sperm so avoid heat for approximately 3 months prior to trying to conceive or checking a semen analysis.
2. Stay well hydrated.
3. Eat a healthy balanced diet with plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables.
4. Eat beef three times a week.
5. Try to ejaculate approximately every 24-48 hours, to keep the system revved up.
6. Avoid testosterone replacement and all male hormone/androgen supplements. These can drastically reduce and even zero-out your sperm count. Most often these counts return overtime, but some men remain sterile permanently.
7. Absolutely no tobacco in any for.
8. Absolutely no marijuana or other drug use, as these are associated with reduced testosterone levels and poor sperm counts and morphology (can be an indication of chromosomal abnormalities).
9. Alcohol in moderation. Excess or binge drinking or heavy drinking is associated with significant sperm toxicity.

Anti-oxidants
1. Selenium 200 micrograms once a day
2. Vitamin C, 250-500 mg, 3 times a day
3. Vitamin E 400 international units once a day
4. Zinc 50-100 mg once a day
5. Coenzyme Q10 30-50 mg once a day
6. Folic acid 400 micrograms a day
7. B complex once a day
8. Fish oil capsules, 2-3 times a day
9. Multivitamin with trace minerals once a day

I hope that helps.

Thank You Gumblossum... So I am totally freaking myself out looking on the internet.... and seeing that some people say I can only get PG through IVF .. I'm so sad!!! I sent my DH a list and told him to pick that stuff up and I am printing out all the instructions and hanging them on the mirrior lol ,,, I wish she had talked to me more than 2 minutes about all this slow sperm stuff... she totally blew me off and told me not to worry!! UGH of course I am going to worry!! that is what I do shrug.gif

Litmama, it looks like we crossed paths, too. (((hug))) Sounds like a super intense, but cathartic weekend. I love the story about the 45 year old mama and the lovely description of the photo. Thank you. Thank you for your experience with the vit D and your DH too. I would say there is no way that he will go to TCM. I have tried before, but I may be able to get him to take the D. I did see your note about your FSH/IUI experience and appreciate it very much. I had responded, but I must have forgotten to click something because it is not there. Argh.

I spoke to my TCM person today. That helped me get grounded and see that probably I had assumptions about the new RE's office based on the previous RE's office, which was pretty much the most organized, kindest medical office I have ever dealt with and really quite a tough act to follow. I am trying to let it go about the misunderstanding about the follow up appointment, and also will be quite cautious about costs in the future. The office person I spoke to today helped me with that by telling me how she tends to describe those first appointments. I've asked for a lab order for the MTHFR test and I'll do that before I pay to speak to the doctor. I did not mention here yet that according to my TCM person my numbers looked like those of a much younger woman and my FSH and Estradiol were as good or better than 2 years ago. That is a sweet thing to hold onto.

Shell and gumblossom, I hope the timing angels are sparkling around you.

Wow, I had forgotten what it was like to be on and read this thread.  It's so riveting, like a good book that you don't want to put down.

Litmama, I'm so sorry to hear about your journey.  I can only imagine how emotional that situation was for you.  I hope that the takeaway is that you're ripe for a sticky bean pregnancy in the very near future.

Mittens, congrats on your BFP!  Best wishes to you!

To all the other mamas....may the fertility gods shine down on you and bless you with the babies you're working so hard to have!

Love and blessings!

I'll drop by on occasion, but won't be able to keep up regularly.  Stay well!

Good to see you msgoodbuns! Nice to know you are lurking and sometimes popping in.

Shell, from what I know not having had IUI's personally that makes a lot of sense to me, definitely worth talking to the doctor about. I hope though that your good timing this month makes it unnecessary!

I got an email from my new RE tonight. She said my homocysteine was normal so no need to test for the MTHFR. Does anyone know anything about that?

I think I am 3 dpo today, but really not very sure as my temps are very low.

I have had the low Vit D issue also, even though the doc blew it off as nothing, from what I read it can cause all kinds of symptoms, sore joints, fatigue, etc.

Litmama, sorry you are having a tough time emotionally, you sure have every right to grieve as you went on quite the roller coaster this time around! Good you have a supportive DH!

gumblossom, I guess if you are now in the 2 w/w we are close in our cycles, and I am just a bit older than you at 47!

I was watching the supernanny today and there was a family with 10 kids and the dad had just celebrated his 50th bday and mom was similar age, and their youngest was 8 months!! Gave me some hope since theirs was a completely natural conception as well.

Hugs everyone,

Christi

Well the nurse called me back this morning and wanted to make sure I wasnt worrying ( ha , they know me too well) ... Well she said the normal motility is 50 % and DH is at 48% so not too bad... She also said that is not the reason I am not getting pregnant!

I am having a little light cramping today and my breast are sore...and only 4 dpo
