I am finishing up graduate school in a few months and will be transitioning back into the working world. After 2 years of intense work, I'd love to take a trip in June to celebrate and unwind! However, we are also in TTC mode and while I would love my BFP tomorrow there is a chance it may take a few or several months to show up.

Does anyone have any advice for planning travel or vacations while TTCing? Part of me feels like this is a bad idea since I may actually get pregnant in the next couple of months and that might put a damper on travel. On the other hand, I hate this sitting around for something that may or may not happen before June.

What are you all doing about travel? Do you just put it on hold? Do you buy refundable tickets? Maybe stay in the country?

I say go for it!!!!!
Some studies and speculating has been done on holidays while TTC and it looks like it can be good for it!!!
All the relaxing and time for baby dancing!! I just wouldn't cross too many major time zones if you are temping.
And a holiday would be a nice break anyway.
I say go for it. Give yourself a break from study and obsessing and have fun smile.gif))

Thanks for the encouragement! I would love to do Hawaii, which would be a 3-hour shift for us but I may just have to do it anyway.

I guess my concern is that I'll plan a trip for June/July, then suddenly get pregnant, then be sick for my whole vacation. I guess either way I win, right? Either I have an awesome vacation (not pregnant) or I'm pregnant (and have a sickly vacation). ;)

I'm in the same boat!  I graduate from grad school in 46 days (but whose counting, right?) and I want to take my husband somewhere in June, possibly out west to visit friends.  I'm going ahead with the plans either way.  It's safe to travel in the first 3 months of pregnancy anyways right?

I really don't know, but I hope so! Along the same lines, is it considered dangerous to travel in your second trimester?

I would say the second trimester would be the best time to fly.  The morning sickness part is over and you aren't so big that it has become cumbersome yet.  Based on my last time around it was the part of my pregnancy when I felt the best.  I flew as late as my 7th month, I think it was.

:)

I say go for it! There is no harm in flying in your firs,t second or third trimester (I just asked my doc) to you or baby. It may just pro long jet lag as you may be a little sleepier than usual anyway. But that would only be the case if you are crossing huge time zones- i.e. Australia to Germany etc. I think you should be fine with Hawaii!!

Just remember to watch what you eat/drink no matter where you go (esp if its a developing nation) But Hawaii is completely fine

You can bask you baby belly in the gorgeous sun :)  How sweet!!

Awesome, I like what you all have to say about this. I'm going to go ahead and plan that vacation and we'll just see if I'm pregnant or not for it. Thanks!

I have several trips planned from now through the fall.  Not many are true vacations, but mini ones.  Staying in the States, visiting family, hitting a festival or two, that stuff.

Definitely not canceling any no matter what. :-)  I have traveled by plane for a vacation in my first tri, when I was very nauseaus before and honestly it was still better than being sick at home. hehe.  I brought ginger chews with me everywhere and walked a lot more than if I was miserable at home. food for thought

AND-I won't travel anywhere, won't work, won't leave my home practically, this time around in the last week or two.  My labors are getting faster and faster each time. Last babe came in 30 minutes after my water broke!
