Getting things updated!  Moving the pregnant ladies to graduates.  Any updates you want like age or if you have a basal body temperature chart?

It is always a good thing to have a place to feel like you belong.  I know a year ago when I started frequenting MDC, I really appreciated the perspective of the ladies here.  I looked at the "average" length of ladies in their 30's to get pregnant from our current list of graduates - 9.25 months.  I keep having the faith that my DH will get his sperm issues worked out and he and I will have a little one sometime in 2013.  AF showed up this morning.  If I had been pregnant, I would have had a Dec 2012 due date, but since I am not pregnant, Jan 2013 or beyond is where I am headed.  Never give up, never surrender!  Positive attitude in all things and explore the options for the future.

I am sorry to everyone for being absent!  I have been reading along and stalking all of you.  Welcome to the newbies!

I was pretty depressed after AF arrived.   I am not temping, I am drinking coffee and alcohol and eating whatever I want.  I am not taking any vitamins or supplements.  In short, I am no longer TTC and now I am just saving for IVF.   At the current rate, I should be ready to go by the end of summer/early fall 2013.   Here's to a 2014 baby!

At that time, I will have been trying for 3 and a half years = quite a bit longer than the average of 9.25 months.  I have always counted by cycles instead of months and this is cycle 26 of "TTC" for me.  I have only been on MDC for 9 or 10 months and I am so glad to have the support over the last few months.

Lilac, I am really hoping that you and your hubby are keeping in good spirits.  I hope this isn't affecting your sex life too much.  I know that all my infertility news has taken a toll on my sex drive and my feelings of security in my femininity, if that makes sense.

Team Viddy - I am hoping this is your month!

PUH, I know my spirits have been going back and forth, up and down.  Trying to keep encouraging my DH too.  We have both been so exhausted from work this last week that our sex life hasn't been what either of us has been wanting.  Then today AF showed up so some of the fun will have to wait.  DH had Good Friday off from work, but I had to teach, so I am pretty tired.  In fact DH is taking a nap right now and I should be too.

Hi everyone! Please add me to this list again... was here in December, totally confused by having a "chemical pregnancy" (I hate that term) on our first month trying. Next month I didn't ovulate, then got pregnant again and had another chemical. Am now undergoing blood work for  "recurrent abortion" problem.

We tried again this month though the doctor told us to hold off (didn't give us a reason - and this was after he snapped at me for asking a couple of informed questions about progesterone, aspirin, etc. - told me to stop reading "the Internet" - his words)....  because we had to take off last month and were just eager to try. I'm hoping the two CP's were just plain bad luck - so far all my tests have been OK.

So, my 2WW just started. Glad to have a forum of ladies to wait with. Good luck to everybody!!

Teacher, student, walker, writer, happy new wife; trying for 2 months (1st month, chemical pregnancy).

Thanks for the new thread, Lilac!

I'm on holiday at the moment, so I'll actually be able to check in here a little more. I totally agree with the sentiment of how great it is to have this group to belong to.

PUH - Here's to a 2014 baby indeed! I'm sure it's not how you imagined things happening, but I'm glad you have a plan and something to work toward. Please keep us posted on how you're doing!

AFM - So happy to have 2 weeks break from school! I'm CD21 and I think today or tomorrow is going to be O day. Fingers crossed!

hadleymonroe, I added you back into the list on the thread.  Here is to hoping for good things!

Doula, I hope your break allows your O day to be marvelous and brings about a BFP soon.

AFM, I shed a few tears as I saw my uncle with his 7 grandkids surrounding him for Easter and wishing I could give just one grandkid to my mom so she can be a grandma too.  My mom has 7 kids, 3 are married, all are adults and I am the oldest at 35 and no grandkids.  My mom stopped having kids at 35 and I am just trying to get started.  Makes me miss my maternal Grandma so much because I know she would have loved my husband and would be eagerly awaiting great-grandchildren.  I can't wait to see her again in heaven.

Hi Folks. I am just a few days from O. When we first started talking about trying late last summer I took my temperature pretty consistently for a few months. My temps were pretty normal and my O day and cycles were fairly obvious. Once we hit the six month mark we went from "not preventing" to "trying" and I am taking my temperature again. Now they are much less consistent (and my daytime temps have been lower), leading me to some concerns that I am not actually ovulating. Also, last year I went to the doctor for an annual physical and brought up concerns about thyroid problems. They took some blood tests and some of my numbers were slightly off and my doctor recommended I come back in for more thyroid tests. I am thinking of calling and making an appointment for 2-3 weeks from now, so I will either know I am pregnant and have been ovulating, or will know that I didn't get pregnant.

I am really trying to get over my feelings of skepticism about mainstream medicine on this one. I just keep putting off the appointment because I will have to pay for it out of the HSA and I am afraid it will lead to expensive treatments or some dependency on drugs, and that terrifies me. Right now I just take aspirin one day a month and I rarely take sinus medicine. That's it. I know that thyroid medicine, if I do indeed have a problem, could help pull me out of some mood problems that are throwing kinks into my life, and help me ovulate. Does anyone have a success story about treatment of thyroid problems to share?

Hi everyone, I'm totally new to Mothering so a big thank you for starting this group and fingers crossed for all of you!

I'm 31, and after having been on pills for 10 years am TTC since the start of this year. Just found out my in-laws are expecting so could use a little community to keep from going nuts.

TeamViddy, I am hypothyroid and have been taking thyroid meds since December, obviously I am not pregnant given my DH issue with no sperm that we are trying to figure out but there is a another message board on fertility friend where I have gotten lots of information that has helped me on my TTC journey.  First off for testing, I will quote metalchevy

This is where the forum is over on fertility friend:  http://www.fertilityfriend.com/Circles/viewforum.php?f=1528

You want to get the following tested:

Begin quote

"TSH
Free T4 (very, very important it is free not total. Total = useless)
Free T3 (ideally) or Total T3 (acceptable)

If you haven't had them before:

Thyroid peroxidase antibody (TPOAb)
Thyroglobulin antibody (TGAb)

The two above will tell you whether you are dealing with autoimmune hypothyroid (Hashimoto's) or not. I think its good to get that DX because it can help you down the road to fight for better/more frequent retests and care. At least that has been my experience. There are also some studies out there that suggest a high TPOAb may correlate to increased m/c (even more than the just general all around increase in m/c risk we all have as Hashi's gals).

Another test that isn't absolutely necessary, but could also be considered:

Reverse T3 (done when Free T3 taken)

Other biggies I would HIGHLY recommend:

Vit D3
Vit B12
Folate
Ferritin, TIBC, Serum Iron
Complete metabolic panel (magnesium, potassium, etc.)

I recommend the above because most of us have serious absorption issues that cause us to be insufficient in many of the things listed above. I felt 1,000 times better when I got on Synthroid, but that list little bit of true healing only kicked in when we found out how deficient I was in Vit D and B12 and started supplementing both with simple OTC vitamins.
" end quote

Personally, I have had TSH, free T4, total T3 test.  If TSH had been the only indicator, my doctor would have missed my thyroid issue.  My free T4 was low in October 2011 and that is why I started taking generic Synthroid.  Some of the ladies swear by Synthroid proper but I have been feeling okay on the generic.  I also had vitamin B12 and folate checked (both were great).  I still probably need to get my vitamin D3 checked as I still am having some issues with tiredness, but could also be that my free T4 hasn't gotten up into the best range either, even though it is higher than when I started this journey.  Thyroid issues can take a long time to resolve because absorption is one issue to be dealt with.  I know there are other ladies on fertilityfriend who are hypothyroid and have gotten pregnant so there is hope.

Thank you Lilac. I really need some encouragement. I have been hearing bad things about mainstream medicine all my life and I am just afraid of getting into it. I was tested for some of the vitamins a few months ago in addition to some preliminary thyroid measurements. Also, a few years ago I had sudden weight gain, hair loss and amenorreah. They ran a bunch of bloodwork and everything was normal- although they didn't do any thyroid testing. I was going through a very stressful time and they just attributed it to increased stress (it wasn't too bad- it was like 30 lbs, 3 months of no AF). I had also been vegan for 12 years and had recently started eating eggs. So I cut out eggs again and started marathon training for stress abatement and everything was OK again (I think my body doesn't react well to eggs- I am experimenting again and have gained some weight and gotten sluggish). Taking prenatals has been great- I feel much better when I take my vitamins. Must have had a deficiency even though it didn't show up on the bloodwork.

Do you mind me asking if you have any related mood issues? I am especially interested in addressing related mood issues.

Tropical fever, glad you found the list of acronyms useful.  There are lots of them.  That link was posted from someone long before me.  I have just been thread keeping for awhile waiting to get pregnant.  Have a great day!

TeamViddy, I have had some times in my life where I have dealt with depression.  I participated and firmly believe in a program called "Depression: the way out" by Dr. Neil Nedley.  http://www.drnedley.com/c-depression-recovery.html For me, and I just made this connection with something someone said about Vitamin D absorption, the bright light box that I wake up to each morning made all the difference in my life.  My depression was particularly bad in the winter when there wasn't much sun.  I started using http://www.drnedley.com/golite-blu.html and my mood changed like night and day!  I had also made some life style changes with omega-3s and other things discussed in the book.  I was part of a support group that met once a week for 10 or 12 weeks in my local area through a church.

I had a friend who did the residential program which lasts 10 straight days http://www.drnedley.com/10-day-depression-recovery-program.html and was significantly helped, that is why I looked into finding a local program to get myself some help.  If you call 1-888-778-4445 you can ask if there is a local program going on near you.  I know many of the programs start up in the spring so people can get the exercise they need to really kick up the positive mood hormones in the body.  I totally recommend this program to anyone with mood issues.  Even just a few of the ideas implemented in your life can make a huge difference.

Congratulations, RosieL!

Lilac and past forum-keepers, thanks for the great resources. I got immersed in fertilityfriend for about an hour yesterday - I'm a biology geek and was glad to find a site full of hard information based on actual studies and data! My cycles were very regular before going on BC and for the past few months since I stopped in Dec, but I've decided to start charting and maybe use an OPK to make sure everything is working well if we don;t get a + this month.

Ugh, I keep forgetting to take my temp in the morning! I am probably in my fertile window. DH had one month of no soy, looser underpants and no THC but this month, not so much. I am hoping that our timing compensates for these things. Does anyone know how to get one of those home sperm count kits? I've heard they exist but I don't know the details.

I made a follow up appointment for my thyroid detail testing for 3 weeks from now, after I know if we caught an egg this cycle. After writing about my concerns here I went ahead and called.

lilac - Thanks so much! It's been such a restful week so far and we managed to have awesome timing. We shall see!

hadleymonroe - So good to see you again :) I'm sorry to hear you've had such a rough time of it, what a roller coaster! Awesome to hear your tests have been good though, keeping my fingers crossed for a sticky bean this month!

teamviddy - I had no idea you could get home sperm count kits! Let us know if you find anything out, crazy. Interesting what you said about the eggs and sluggishness, it sounds like you've been taking really good care of yourself though. I really need to take a good look at my diet because I am just constantly tired and worn out. I'm pretty sure I need to cut out dairy and see if that makes any difference. We're already vegetarian and my husband is vegan, so really it shouldn't be too hard...I just love the stuff!

AFM - 4DPO with great timing, although we all know that doesn't really mean anything. Loving being on holiday, although it definitely isn't helping with the TWW obsessing. At least during school I have crazy children to keep my mind off it!

Thinking of you all xo

here is one sperm counting kit I have seen but didn't order for DH.  http://www.fairhavenhealth.com/spermcheck-fertility.html

I actually asked the science teacher at my school if I could borrow a microscope for the weekend so could do a little checking of my own.  I saw this video http://www.drmalpani.com/spermvideo.htm on this webpage that discusses semen analysis in easily understandable language for a person like me http://www.drmalpani.com/semen-analysis.htm

so this weekend will be interesting to see what I see under the microscope!

In other news, DH and I replaced the wax seal on our toilet today.  Yeah!  No more leaky toilet.  Oh, and the furnace wasn't working tonight when I got home.  Thankfully it is staying about 63 degrees, which is bearable.  Furnace fixit man is coming tomorrow.

Lilac, very cool! Science! I am excited to hear about your experience with that.

Thanks for the link. I will think about ordering this after my 2WW. I think the soy, tight underpants, and THC are affect the sperm count and not the quality of the sperm. But those are lifestyle issues and there might be some things like vitamin deficiencies that could make in impact as well. I guess I also have to ask him if he wants to take the sperm count test.

Looks as if I haven't O'd yet. We'll have a lot of time this weekend... Looks like we FINALLY will have a cycle where we BD the "right" number of times during my fertile window. It only took 7 or 8 months. Crossing my fingers.

Well, I got a sample of DH's semen and like our doctor said, there was nothing in it.  Ugh.  I am going to use the microscope for looking at saliva patterns for ferning patterns.

Lilac, I wouldn't tell them what you did with that microscope when you give it back, LOL!

I keep my charts on my iPad. I should really put them on ff so I can share. I o'd on day 18 this month, after a 21 day cycle last month. Maybe it's the b-6?

Taking a trip to the ob/gyn on Wednesday. I'm a little nervous!

Hey ladies---

I've been stalking the thread and keeping tabs on everyone... Still hoping for more BFP's this spring!

Meanwhile, Mother's Day is approaching and I'm having anxiety.  I just don't feel up to it this year.  (If I hadn't miscarried, I'd be 9 months pregnant on Mother's Day).  I never realized what a painful holiday this could be for women who are struggling to conceive.

I hope everyone is doing well!  I'll be back for personals in a couple of days.  Love to you all!

Me (32) and DH (30) welcomed our precious baby boy 1/2013... life is good.
