Hi there,

Can anyone recommend any pre-conception blood tests that I should have done? I was thinking of checking my iron levels, as well as thyroid, and vitamin D. Anything else I should have checked?

Thanks so much!

It depends on how old you are, if you're cycles are regular, etc. If you have irregular cycles or you're over 35, you might want to have some testing done to check your hormone levels and your ovarian reserve. Your ob/gyn will usually send you for those tests.

I did that before my pregnancy.  I think it's such a good thing to do.  I went to a naturopath and said that I wanted to check everything that would be good to know before TTC.  They did some sort of full blood panel that included everything you mentioned as well as folate, blood sugar, and a few others things.  Iron as well as ferritin is important.  Ferritin is your stored iron.  (that is just my rough understanding)

...and then after the results they recommended a supplement plan for me.
