Trying to find THE best prenatal vitamin out there and it is soooo hard! I want one that has everything its supposed to and not have the stuff I don't want. Does any one have recommendations? If you don't mind checking your prenatal vitamin and getting back to me I would greatly appreciate it! I am trying to have all of the following, and the most important part is that the B12 is NOT cyancobalamin!!

Vitamin A >15000 IU/day

B6 6mg

Folic acid 400-800 mcg

Calcium 600 mg

Iron 40mg

DHA 300-600mg

Zinc 20mg

B1 (Thiamin) 25mg

B2 (riboflavin) 25mg

B3 (niacin) 30mg

B12 800mcg

Biotin 300 mcg

Vit C 800mg

Vit D 1200 IU/day

Vit E 400 IU/day

Selenium 200 mcg

Magnesium 600 mg

You'll want to clear it with your OB/midwife but I LOVE the ALIVE Women's MAX Potency. Lots of good stuff in those. A little pricey, though. And hard to find.

Good luck!

Thorne Prenatals are great, and don't have the type of B12 you mention. You might want to look into ProCycle vitamins, too, recommended in the book Fertility, Cycles, & Nutrition, to get the high doses of A, etc. that you are looking for.

Hmm, you might need to combine and take several pills to get all that.  I would come up with a combo and then run it by your doctor.

Why can't you have cyanocobalamin?

I just checked out New Chapter and it doesn't say where the B12 comes from... http://www.newchapter.com/multi-vitamins/perfect-prenatal#supplement-facts

Thanks so much for responding ladies. I dont want cyancobalamin because there are hereditary problems in my family dealing with the liver, and cyancobalamin is hard on your liver.

Everything in Thorne prenatals looked great accept Chromium. There arent any studies that say whether the amount is too much. But the dosage for Thorne is way higher than what is recommended. Sad! I thought I had found the perfect prenatal!

IME, Thorne is a great brand that uses all the latest research. Consider reading doctoryourself.com to find out more about optimal vitamin doses for health. The RDA established by our government is barely adequate for preventing the deficiency diseases, and that is what they are based on, preventing deficiency only, not optimizing health.

Nobel prize winner, Linus Pauling wrote quite a bit on vitamin c, for example... Fascinating.

Personally, I take lots of separate vitamins, as there's no one pill big enough, lol.

Good luck! Taking vitamins is wonderful!
