I have been waiting for this time for almost 2 years. Our DD is 41/2 and we have been waiting until I became healthy enough to TTC. I am 35 and I have rheumatoid arthritis and severe allergies. Back when I had DD I listened to whatever the mainstream advice was, listened to my rheumatologist and OB and did exactly as they said without question.
I am much more educated now! I already met with a midwife who does home births and thinks I'm healthy enough to conceive. I have been off all prescription medications for 4 years and I have been on a strict meat and vegetable diet. No sugars, no starches. I'm feeling good about getting pregnant and we want to try before there are any more set backs!
However, I need some basic advice on what types of folic acid you would all recommend and what type of prenatal vitamins are the best. Any other advice you can offer would be great! Thank you bunches!
The key to folic acid is to start taking it 3 months before you TTC. That's how long it takes to make a mature egg so it's better to get the vitamins in early. Eating foods with folate is also good. I take a Rainbow Light prenatal that's one a day and I like it. They also have versions where you take more than 1 a day and the pills are smaller. The iron in prenatals can be constipating, so my OB said not to take it until I was actually pregnant, but I took it before anyway. Good luck to you!
Married to a wonderful woman since 2010. Baby boy C arrived in June 2013!
