My pumping cessation is going well. Two full days of no pumping and my breasts were full and hard but not tender and no leaking. I think I'm past the risk of mastitis.

The next question is do I nurse on demand on the weekend, or give him bottles when he would normally have them at daycare. That's a tough question.

I've been thinking about what you said, and also read a few threads detailing every night of the night-weaning experience. The first night (last week) I refused dd I felt so guilty. Yesterday, I finally decided that I had to commit if night weaning is what I wanted. So, last night I committed to 6 hours of no nursing. DD cried and screamed for an hour at 2.30am and 5am. But she fell asleep eventually without nursing. My dh is away on business trip, and I want dd somewhat nightweaned before he returns. He's no help there, and it would drive him nuts if dd threw tantrums at night.

Thanks for all the support here :) Everyone IRL thinks I should've weaned dd ages ago, so the only response to my current situation is a smirk, and I Told You So.

Personally I would try to nurse and if he has a fit because he can't get any milk, then give a bottle. I haven't pumped in ages and still nurse regularly at home. Though my situation is a little different, since I rarely work the same shift more than 2 days in a row, typically my supply doesn't downregulate. But you never know, he may be able to get some milk when he tries to nurse on weekends.

I wasn't thinking about not enough milk, but rather reducing nipple stimulation to encourage ovulation.

Oh, I see. Hmm. That's a really good question. I don't think there is probably one hard and fast answer to that.

I have a random question--- how long did it take you to ovulate after weaning?

Well here is the weekend and I couldn't possibly give a bottle instead of nursing. I am more attached to nursing than I had imagined.

I'm curious about wean-to-ovulate times as well.

Wow - this cycle I'm ovulating a whole two weeks sooner than my previous cycles (CD21 rather than CD35). Hoping this is a good sign of things starting to normalize and maybe my luteal phase will be long enough this go 'round. Maybe all the oysters and cod liver oil and fish roe are living up to their claims!

We nailed it (no pun intended) on timing, so I'm in the 2ww now!

My AF returned at 11 months and we didn't night-wean until 14 months.

With my most recent baby, we nightweaned by a year or so and I was nursing only once a day on my three workdays (and no pumping) and AF still didn't return until 17 months or so. It returned much earlier with my other two.

DS born 6/03, DD1 born 9/06, DD2 born 10/10, DD3 born 4/14.

I've never had to wean to bring on ovulation.  After my first when i got af back i day 1 cycle that was annovulatory but ovulated every cycle after that one.  With my 2nd i ovulated before getting af back and every cycle after that one.  I'm nursing my almost 17 month old and no signs of ovulation or af  showing anytime soon but i kinda wonder if that is because he still nursing at least 2-3 times a night.

It seems to differ widely by person. :-/
