this is the 2nd cycle in a row that I've had spotting a day or two before ovulation.  It's been either brown or very dark/ almost black.  But it's definitely not bright red.  Makes me think it isn't new blood.  But is that accurate thinking?

Anyone else?  Thoughts on what this could be?

I think of spotting as being hormonal, but could this be more anatomical... due to my cervix opening slightly just before I ovulate?

I've heard it said that usually, spotting in the follicular phase is due to low estrogen and spotting in the luteal phase is due to low progesterone.  But what about right at ovulation?  I suppose it could still be due to low estrogen, maybe?

would love anyone's insight

thank you!

Hi there HannahJ. Is the spotting right along there in your EWCF? I used to get a spot of red in my EWCF years ago, then it went away for a while, now I get it again. I've heard it's supposed to indicate heightened fertility. The brown blood is indicative of old blood so maybe as your cervix prepares to go SHOW a few blood blood vessels burst a bit before?

I just posted a thread about this before seeing this one!

I just checked my cervix with a speculum and noticed some slight spotting around the opening. I don't have it when I wipe or anything, but I read somewhere that it could mean heightened fertility. Who knows if that's true, I sure hope so. I saw it then made my SO come BD with me haha. It's pretty much "on time" with ovulation, as I'm supposed to O around the 22nd or 23rd, and I'm getting a dull crampy feeling in my lower abdomen.

I've never checked my cervix with a speculum until recently, so I have no idea if this is just something that happens to me around ovulation time.

Anyway, I hope it's a good sign for both of us!
