We recently moved to another part of Illinois so I need to find a new provider.  I had a natural hospital birth with my first which was awful because the doctor on call was so rigidly by the book that she treated me like I was going to keel over dead at any moment.  My second birth was at home in a birth tub with two midwives.  It was much better.  This time I'm thinking of either a birthing center or at home again.  I was on the phone with the receptionist at the first GYN I called.  I told her about my homebirth and wanted to know who at the practice is open to that idea.  She said, honestly, no one.  I still made an appointment to meet a nurse-practitioner but I'm not sure I'll stay with that practice.  I'll ask her what her views are on homebirth and natural birth when I go on Wednesday.  In the meantime  are there any other questions or concerns I should bring up that anyone can think of?

Thanks so much! :thumb

If it were me, I'd want to know about all the labor stuff:

Can I labor walking around?

Can the cord pulse on its own for up to an hour? (That's how long mine took!)

Etc. that's the stuff I'd really care about.

Lol good answers but I've already had two natural births, the second was a homebirth in a birthtub, so I'm pretty knowledgeable about that sort of stuff.  :lol

I think what Galatea meant is to ask if the OB is open to you walking around and leaving the cord I clamped or is s/he going to be hassling you for continuous monitoring and active management of third stage.

I agree with her that you should consider all the things which are important to you and the ask the OB whether they are comfortable with them.
