Question Dollar Tree test opinions?

We are ttc #2 (something I thought my husband would never want). We are on cycle 2, so I was not expecting much in using a Dollar Tree test for the first time. It took 1.5yrs to get my first pos (mmc) and 3yrs for my second (DS).

I'm not charting yet, but have watched my cycle closely and followed cm. Today is about 13/14dpo and af is due today or tomorrow. I've had lots of tummy troubles for a few days, but assumed it was due to stress over a family emergency.

I was ready for a snowy white test, but a pale line appeared. Is this a pos? How reliable are DT tests? We are both in denial due to troubles in the past with ttc... Afraid to believe until it is doubt-free.

Thank you!!

I hope so! Thanks, discalceata. My husband has barely acknowledged it so far. We are both too scared, I think. Even our successful pg had very scary bleeding 5 weeks in. Hopefully retesting tomorrow with a FRER will have good results.

Positive! And $$ store tests have been shown to be just as accurate as the $20 tests!

Oh, really? I just picked up a FRER pack, so I'll see if one of those agrees tomorrow...

Positive congratulations!!! I don't have any links to share since it's been a few years since I looked into it but I actually looked it up once to find out what the most sensitive tests and most reliable tests were and surprisingly enough some of the dollar store tests are better than the others. There are some of them that detect a lower level of hormone than the fancy "early result" ones. The clinics here also use something very similar (the same?) as the dollar store tests. That's a positive! Good luck and lots of healthy baby wishes to you!

Thanks, crazyms! I'm interested to see how the FRER differs tomorrow... I have everything crossed that it is pos too. It would be such good timing with an airplane trip landing right after 12wks.

Depending on the sensitivity of the test if you aren't very far along you can get a false negative on a less sensitive test just because it can't detect the hormone yet. Just want to mention that. I had a light mark like you have with my DS and took about 4 different kinds because some looked negative and some looked positive. That's how I found out about the dollar store tests because I researched it since I got mixed results. Found out the dollar store tests were more sensitive than the others I was using. The dollar store test here was new... ??. I don't remember.

Here we go... New Choice was the one I was thinking of from the Dollar Tree. Anyways here's a chart for comparison of the tests by sensitivity. It's pretty shocking to be honest lol. http://www.fertilityplus.com/faq/hpt.html

I am not TTC, so please forgive me if I am getting in on a private conversation. But I hope my story will help you. =) I am currently 21 weeks pg. When I tested with the Walmart brand in mid April, I got a VERY quick and bright positive. But when I went to the crisis pregnancy center to get my first u/s in late June, they of course had to test to make sure I was pg. I of course knew I was pg, but it was there protocol. They tested me (don't know what kind of test they used..but I doubt it was a dollar store one) but the nurse said that it was "faintly positive" and that I was probably very newly pg.....even though I knew I had been pg for at least 2-3 months at that point. When the nurse did the u/s, the first words out of her mouth were, "HOLY CRAP!" because she seriously expected to see a new pg not 19 weeks along! I say all of that to say, it really can differ! I say yours is positive! CONGRATS!

I guess the Dollar Tree tests worked well at 13/14dpo! FRER is pos this morning.

Still in shock that we got a pos in cycle 2, when it took 3 years for DS...

Thank you to those who commented! I wasn't brave enough to test until I read your encouragements.

Not Tortilla Factory. I think it was Teocalli Tamale, but it was 11 years ago, and we haven't lived there in 10, so I'm not 100% sure of that (and I wouldn't expect you to remember either after this long!). We both knew Alex on LJ.

DS born 6/03, DD1 born 9/06, DD2 born 10/10, DD3 born 4/14.

Not feeling terribly confident after hearing yesterday's beta was 49... It was only cd 27, but I have short cycles. Could have been 13-15dpo. Can't retest until Monday (my birthday).
