I used a known donor and don't recommend it; the "ick" factor was greater than I expected and he has not been tested so it was essentially the same as unprotected sex;
arrived today and now I'm obsessing that what I thought were pg symptoms are really HIV symptoms.
I just had to throw that in since you mentioned the money factor.
Now, Northwest Cryobank
will sell you the sperm without a doctor's authorization. The release forms are here
. I have not used them myself, but I have been warned that the are very anti-midwife and will require an OB/GYN's release form if they suspect that you are using a midwife to help with either conception or birth.
They are quite reasonable and charge about $200 for each vial and $150 rental fee/shipping charge for the tank.
Sperm has a very short life outside the body unless it is frozen. My friend who had the successful insemination felt that the 30 minute drive back to my house from my donor's house might have been too long.
There are instructions on thawing the spermhere
if you scroll down.
Again, this is all "do as I say not as I do" info but I hope it helps you anyway.
