well, i won't be of much help, but generally doctors say to wait at least 3 months after getting off the Pill before TTC, and it's going to take a while to get her cycles regular again. i hope she can be patient while her body resumes it's regular functions.
and wouldn't a doctor want her to be TTC for 12 months before starting Clomid or other drugs?

Yes, tell her to go get a physical, and make sure they check her Thyroid (TSH and Free T4). Coming off the pill can throw your thyroid into a funk (ask me how i know....). For me, I went from July to Jan with no period.... then spotting, then had a real period in late Feb. I'm now on CD35, 10 DPO (according to FF), and i thinkwe've got me back to semi normal... I'm on Synthroid now, tho, and per my doc, will probalby be on in the rest of my life....

Tell her to drink Red Rasberry leaf tea, and maybe try Vitex (caps or tincture) when AF starts... thats supposed to normalize your cycle naturally. Red Clover tea is supposed to help with encouraging your body to be fertile..gently...

It took me 4 months to get preg after being on the pill for a little over a year. I've been off Depo Provera for 5 mo and still not cycling normally. It takes a while for bodies to get back to "normal"

She should probably wait at least the recommended 3 cycles to see what happens, and then talk to a fertility specialist. I always think it's a bad idea for someone to just say you should take so-and-so drug, having no idea what is going on with their particular body. Everyone has different fertility issues and there is no one perfect thing for everyone.

One other thing to consider (not to freak your SIL out at all) is that sometimes women who are on the pill a long time (and 20 years is a long time) experience an atrophying of the endometruim, especially those who's periods get really light while they're on the pill. Basically if the uterus doesn't get used at all for a long time (meaning the lining doesn't get very thick and shed on a regular basis) it doesn't work as well. I think it is reversable, but I'm not sure of the specifics.

Best of luck and lots of baby dust to your SIL!!

I just wanted to add that i have heard that it can take up to a YEAR for cycles to get back to normal depending on what bc you were o nand how your body reacted to it.. When I went off my bc it was months before i had a period, and then when they did come it lasted almost a full month.. With a 2 week break in between and then a nother period...

Bc really screws with your system...

WEll mine anyway..

Unfortunately, many docs are impatient and/or getting kickbacks from the drug companies and will prescribe Clomid at the drop of a hat. But I think 12 months of TTC before panicking is reasonable for anyone under 30. I'm glad to hear your SIL is resisting her mom's suggestions.
