Sarah and Karen: Yeah, that was just too funny! Since they're spouting this "even if the penis doesn't enter the vagina, you can get pregnant", they should come the ttc boards and know that they're pretty much lying to the people! I really did enjoy that cartoon and Peter is especially funny because he gets excited over everything! I'm glad you liked it.

dctexan: I agree with you about the 20 minutes thing. That's basically all you need for the strong swimmers to get where they need to go. As for the not O'ing part, I pretty much am a human nerve ending so it doesn't take that long for me to "hit the high note" if you get my meaning. It's a rare day indeed when I don't get my orgasm.

I'm so tired!

Do you really think 20-30 minutes is enough for the swimmers to get where they need to go? Does anyone care to share the logistics of their after-deposit behavior? Because this is just not working for me.

Thank you so very much for any thoughts you might have. Where else could I ever ask this question without someone thinking I'm certifiable?!
Truly - I was thinking this VERY thing this morning!! (as I was propping up my hips with every pillow on the bed!) I'm seriously considering (if we don't catch this cycle) investing in some Instead cups to use to keep the fellows where they belong! Esp. after morning quickies, as I'm not awake enough to O, most of the time.
And actually, if we don't catch, I'm going to get one of those at-home sperm assays too. I've been pregnant before, but to DH's knowledge (lor ha mercy!) he has no children - so, just wanna check on them.

RIGHT??? Shoot. I know a couple of HUNDRED women who wish it was that damn easy to get pregnant - I don't know why people feel the need to lie to our children about their bodies. *sigh* Damn puritans!!

So, I fiddled with my chart this morning, discarding the outrageously high temps from my post-imbibing days. It makes my chart look ever so much prettier. Now, I'm just waiting on my crosshairs. If my temp goes up AGAIN tomorrow, I should get them, yes, yes?

Ah, yes! Thank you for reminding me of this. I usually have no problem "hitting a high note" as Kemi so aptly phrased it ( ), but I've been so fixated on HIS high note the past two nights that I've not been concerned about myself. That's gotta stop.

Oh thank God I'm not alone! Last night, as I lie there, I thought surely there were some other women pondering the same questions at that very moment while resting their tushies on a pillow.

***

You know you have to stop looking obsessively at your chart when your very symmetrical pre-O temps start to resemble a bird? a plane? a uterus and fallopian tubes?

***

Okay, back to work with me. There are plenty of months to obsess over such things. I don't have to force it all into my first month. Forgive my giddy insolence please, ladies.

Good day to all!

: Wow, it does look like all of those things.

Kharen, I your new sig!

You know, I've been thinking about the hip propping thing too. And I really just don't know. But, somehow DH has learned about this - at least about lying down for a while afterward - and earlier this week when we dtd (way before my fertile time), he encouraged me not to get up right away.
Wow, that was totally TMI.

Actually I did the charting thing for 6 months and every single one of my charts was beautiful and perfect to look at. I started out low, stayed consistant, had all the fertile signs (sex drive, O pain, eggwhite fluid) and then a beautiful thermal shift that scientifically, proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that I was ovulating on day 9 or 10.
Except...I was really ovulating on Day 14.
(The only two times I've ever had unprotected sex on CD 13 in my entire 20 years of sexual history, I've gotten pregnant. For 20 years I've had unprotected sex between CD 4 and CD 10 and never gotten pregnant.)

Charting is not by far the ONLY way to be sure of anything. The ONLY way to know what your ovaries are really doing is to install a window into your tummy so you can watch 24/7.
Sometimes an estrogen surge can give you a false high.
Sometimes you ovulate perfect eggs and don't have a thermal shift.
Sometimes you have a perfect thermal shift and produce no egg.
Sometimes freaky things can happen like a baby being born with a fatal hole in their heart that miraculously repairs itself over night.
Sometimes a person can fall 4 stories and get up and walk away.
The human body is a miracle that can achieve unbelievable things and if everyone followed the rules exactly to the letter, probably humans would have died out years ago.
The ONLY way to be sure of anything is to be God.

Indeedly. But it seems that there are things (like charting) that us lowly humans can do, to get a peek. I'm sorry (and yet fascinated!) that your body & your chart don't match up - it still seems - odd to me - that an RE would jsut throw your charts away without even looking. But then, I tend to not get along well with docs in general, so that might just be my take on things. Sorry if I hit a nerve......

Um, I've even been checking it this week - before I've even ovulated.

this is the reason I take the link to my chart off my sig once in a while. It's just too easy for me to click on it every 5 minutes.

Jen, boo for AF : I hope your retreat went well today, and that you have a fun and relaxing dinner tonight.

Christina, I went on a mini Little Britain YouTube binge. Let us know if your CBE monitor tries to send you to Beruit

Kharen, you do have an excellent Rorschach chart. I'll go with bird/plane As for the post-coitus stillness, I remember reading that the majority of sperm migration happens within five minutes or so, and that after half an hour, there's no appreciable traffic into the cervix. I am a prolific source of completely unsubstantiated factoids!

Kiya, I think you're right about crosshairs... tomorrow should be the day :

Kemi, that movie was hilarious. The seminal pool looks like a rockin' place!

Sarah, still looking good

Jen I'm sorry AF showed up. Hope you're having a fun-filled day and keeping your mind off things.

Jen & everyone else feeling frustrated right now - you will get pregnant. Some of us take longer than others, but it will happen. I admit after 6 cycles I was mad and losing hope and ready to give up for a while. DH convinced me to keep trying and voila! (Well, voila after soy and OPKs and Instead cups )

Karen speaking of instead cups, those are a pretty good option for you. I don't know if they really made a difference but at least I felt proactive by keeping the spermies up in there. Also don't prop your hips up too high or they'll get pooled behind your cervix and won't be able to swim into the uterus.

Xenon sorry you're feeling AF type crampy. I'm staying hopeful for you! Thanks for being a great threadkeeper last month and may the threadkeeper's luck be with you!

My "other baby" dissertation has been postponed to the fall. Right now I'm doing lots of research, which I hope to have finished by August. Then I'm planning on writing during fall semester and being done before the baby comes. I may have to defend when the baby's 5-6 weeks old but I want to have all the writing and binding done before I become a mommy.

Thanks for all the happy birthday wishes, and thanks Kemi for updating my info.

Good luck to the Circle K (and C) - there are some great looking charts out there I'll be stalking closely!

Dee, mommy to Miss M 11/07 and little Miss I 5/10/10!

Good morning happy Saturday! I hope you're all enjoying your GIO easter weekend :

Kripa :Thumb crosshairs! Your timing looks great too

Kiya I'll be stalking your chart hoping to see another temp jump for you today.

Jen I hope you're doing ok and not too disappointed about af. Just wanted you to know I was thinking about you.

Kharen I'm looking forward to seeing what pattern your chart comes up with next, I was thinking the symmetry looked like a victory V

xenon still looking good : are you still feeling af crampy?

Christina I'm so glad to know I'm not the only one obsessively checking my own chart. It's a sickness I think. I keep thinking maybe somehow the next few days temps will be there already waiting is so hard!

DH is harassing me to test already and I really don't want to. BFNs are such a heartbreak that I swore no more early testing. He's so impatient though and he knows what symptoms I've had all week and he doesn't want to wait. He even tried to convince me by saying he'd go buy the test himself (no small feat for a man who can't even look at a box of tampons in the privacy of our own bathroom without getting antsy) and that he wouldn't tell me the result. Yeah he's obviously crazy.

Be well

Hello!

TMI Alert: Sorry I'm so late today coming on board. DH and I were just a little bit "busy" this morning. My issue was that I just froze up in the beginning. I can't believe I did that because I never freeze up and during this time am usually always "on" if you get my meaning. It took me forever to get lubricated and when I was everything was super tight so DH didn't really last very long. I think in the beginning I was thinking a bit about ttc and it just totally froze me up. Afterwards, I was really relaxed (no big O though) and didn't feel the anxiety I was feeling when we started to DTD. I guess I'm just a work in progress. I try to get over one thing and then another issue crops up. Thinking about ttc didn't help me sexually. We're going to have a date night so I can relax and get into "it".

KitttyKat: Since that is your wish, I'll take you off the list. What happened? Please take care and let us know how you're doing. I don't want to see you go. I actually think that you DO belong here. You're still TTC your first baby right? I hope to see you soon.

SarahJen: You stay strong! I know how it feels to test early and look at the blank space where the second line is supposed to be. It's worse than getting AF! Seriously. BTW, your chart looks great! I'm really looking forward to moving you to the graduates list!

Christina: Yes, I do check my chart during the tww multiple times during the day like the HPT+ sign is going to mysteriously pop up on my chart along with the green lines that say "you're pregnant". I even go as far as searching for other charts to compare temperature, BD, and ovulation patterns to my own chart and count how many of the charts that look like mine are pregnancy or not to see if I have a chance!. You aren't the only one.

Kripa: Hooray for crosshairs! You're timing is great too. I'll be stalking your chart for the next 10 days or so.

Xenon: I'm keeping my : for you!

Wow, it's so quiet - everyone must be BDing!!

Xenon - how goes it? These are the hardest days of the month! I hope AF stays away and you get your BFP! : :

Kripa - you guys went bananas this week! Nice going!!!

Kemi - I know what you mean... for us, the ttc kinda makes us nervous sometimes and sex isn't quite the same... mostly because you don't get to pick when you want to DTD - you're forced to do it, whether you're tired, have a headache, etc.

Sarah - your DH sounds adorable! Keep hangin in! You can make it a few more days...

Dee/Karen - what are Instead Cups??? (I'll do an internet search too... sounds interesting...)

I've been kinda bummed today. Melancholy I guess. I'm blaming AF. Didn't work out today either. Just kinda bummin around, unmotivated. Tomorrow morning I'll work out so maybe that will help me feel better....

I think we may try grandma's recommendation this month - BD every other day. Sounds intense tho! :

That's crazy!! I know what you mean about BFN's though - I'd much rather bleed. Ohhh! When is your test date?? :

Kemi! No you did not just apologize for DTD with your hubby before coming to kick it with us??!?
Oddly enough, we find TTC'ing sex more relaxing - it's more - laidback, somehow.

Happy Easter

Christina for Computer says maybe! Go swim team

Kiya I confess, I tested yesterday afternoon and got an unequivocal test says NO and then I made DH reimburse me for the cost of the test. It's early though so maybe still, I'm not testing again until Tuesday at the earliest no matter how persuasive he is. I doubt he'll suggest it again after the meltdown post test yesterday anyway. The last time I waited until a good 16 dpo to test so I don't even know if I could get a + early or not. So I'll wait.

Jen Instead cups are made to catch menstrual blood but you can use them after DTD to keep the spermies closer to your cervix & prevent them from falling out. You find them near the pads and tampons. It's basically a plastic ring that you squish sideways to insert, then it sits horizontally inside you. I like them for AF too b/c you can wear them for 12 hours and you can BD with them in with no ickiness factor.

Kiya
this pregnancy was achieved on my 7th cycle. I have short cycles though, so it was right at 6 months. As for propping up your hips, I think one pillow is fine & what the docs recommend. My dissertation is about one tiny aspect of DNA replication. Right now I'm trying (unsuccessfully) to focus on getting some material ready for a conference at the end of this month.

Kemi sorry you had a moment of panic at the wrong time. I wouldn't worry too much about it & you can count it as one more BD!

Sarah I'm SO sorry about your BFN. I don't blame you for melting down afterward - that's what your DH gets for harrassing you about it. Some of us can handle testing early and some can't - I can't stand NOT knowing but I understand AF can be easier to deal with than a BFN. Be strong, be cool, and wait it out. Your chart still looks amazing and a lot like your "good chart."

Xenon sorry for the temp drop. Hopefully it doesn't mean what we think it means. :

Christina yay for maybe! At least you know the computer works now, right?

Kripa your timing rocks! Go bananas! Go go bananas! Now you can get some sleep.

I was freaking out about gaining a bunch of weight really fast - 7.5 lbs in 3 weeks - but I'm happy to report that some of it was due to bloat. I lost 2 lbs in the past week so I'm back in line with normal 1st tri weight gain. Of course it might have something to do with walking the dogs daily and eating 3 meals a day instead of 6!

Dee: I'm feeling much better. I think all the stress of ttc just got to me a little bit. DH and I are back on track and things are better than ever!

Kiya: All the best on a positive OPK! I guess I did apologize for DTD instead of coming to check on you guys. That is silly!

As for me: I got a positive OPK this afternoon!!!! I took one this morning that was negative, but just so close that I decided to take another in the afternoon after I waited for a while to pee. I had all the usual things the high open cervix and lots of EWCM. Yay, spring!!!! I'm so happy that I'm going to O earlier than the last few months. Even if this isn't the month, it's nice to have shorter cycles once in a while. I was going crazy with those long cycles. I'm feeling a lot more relaxed now that DH and I had a talk about how I was feeling about this. It is a bit difficult when you want something so bad and it's taking longer than you expected for you to get it. I think our timing is dead on and we'll be going strong for the next few days. Wish us luck!

Also, A Happy Easter to all those observing. Happy Passover (late) for our Jewish mamas, and a Happy Sunday to the rest of us of the different faith traditions!

Yes, Happy Easter, Happy Spring, Happy Sunday!

I feel TONS better today. I worked out when I got up and I have MUCH more energy than the past two days. You know what's great about getting off the pill and charting? Just now, I'm beginning to realize that I get to feeling blah and have low energy the first two days of my period. It's cool to know that. Now I can accept it and not be too hard on myself.

Today, DH and I rocked making progress on the trim for our windows. In about 2 weeks I'll have some much cooler photos to post.

Xenon - sorry to see your temp went down today. Don't know a thing until you see blood tho! Maybe you were just cold this morning? And I've heard a lot of people say they were sure AF was about to come when BOOM they found out they're PG... I'll be stalking to find out...

Dee - it's so fun to hear your PG symptoms - the weight gain, etc. Are you feeling like a "slug?" Are you showing??? (And thanks for the pep talk. It meant a lot when I read what you wrote "You will get pregnant." It's good to stay positive.) I'm intrigued about the Instead Cups. Definitely going to try them.

Anyone buy Preseed online and know where to find the best price? It's really expensive at the pharmacy here...

Kemi - congrats on your + OPK!

Christina - congrats on your high reading!

Sarah - hang in there! Could be you tested too early. (Glad DH paid you back for the test. You guys are so cute!) Sorry you had a meltdown. We all do it sometimes...

Well, gotta go work on our taxes. We've never waited this long before! Hopefully, it'll be worth our while and we'll get some $$$ back.

See ya'll tomorrow!

Happy Monday, Ladies!

I'll come back to do personals later (major project due at work today. blah.), but I wanted to stop in to say I hope everyone had a good weekend!

My temp went up this morning into luteal phase range; I think we did pretty well with our timing. Well, only time will tell.

Thinking about all of you!

Good morning!

My weekend was wonderful. DH and I really bonded well this weekend after my little sexual freeze. It wasn't very fun. DH made up for it yesterday by lighting candles and doing a bit more to get my mind relaxed before the main event. I got a positive OPK yesterday which I'm still very happy about! I'll take one again today to make sure.

SarahJen: Oooooh!!! : Your chart looks AWESOME!!! I'm so excited for you. I really want to move you!

Kharen: Your timing was fabulous. You just may have a short stay after all. I hope you get that project finished soon so you can come back quickly and hang out with us here!

That's it for now. I'll check things in a bit.

Well after this weekend and how I froze up with DH, I was thinking...Maybe our DH's or DP's need to do something a little bit more to get us ladies going. I mean, just jumping in bed for a quickie sometimes just doesn't do it. So for those of us in need of a little bit more, here is A Special Gift. Let me warn you, this is very funny! If you've seen it before enjoy it again and if you haven't seen this, it was freaking hilarious!!!! Enjoy!

Sarah: I love that you made your DH pay you back for the test! Sorry you got a big ole no, but hopefully it's just too early!

Dee: Oooh - that sounds like a cool subject. Quite over my head, I'm sure (at least in thesis form!) but cool none the less.

Kemi: for the + OPK!! It's so funny looking at ya'll charts - I'm not used to looking at such a short chart! My 45 days cycles are starting to look like the norm to me!
Glad you had such a good weekend - me & TheBoy gave a little more of our money to the Home Despot, and grilled, and stayed inside to hide from the cold.

Jen: Isn't it cool figuring out your body? I like seeing my cycles of moods/attitudes, etc.
And we STILL haven't done our taxes - I'm dragging my feet because we owe (oh, how we owe), and well. Dangit. I've given Uncle Sam enough! So yeah, I'm waiting til the last minute.

Kharen: Your timing looks FABULOUS!!! :

I'm just waiting for cross hairs now - I don't know WHAT that second dip is about (I'm torturing myself by idly wondering what ovulating twice would look like on a chart), but I'm hoping to get my lines soon. If I change the analysis to OPK, it's telling me I O'd on CD35. I took another OPK last night, and it was distinctly negative, so my surge is definitely over.
No matter when I O'd, I think our bases are covered....:

The mystery of life isn't a problem to solve, but a reality to experience.

A call for a general consensus: A moment ago, I found myself wanting to use that ever-present disclaimer that we all feel compelled to attach to things we wouldn’t typically say even to our dearest friends: “Sorry if this is TMI.”

I say we ban (or at least politely discourage the need for) the use of the “TMI” label on this thread. Let’s face it—if cervical fluid is a standard topic amongst the members of a group, you’re WAY past the point of considering things TMI anyway. Besides, I like talking about cervical fluid; I like talking openly about the logistics of productive intercourse. I like it all! It’s good to know I’m not alone when my body and my mind are doing all sorts of crazy things to confuse me.

Every time I see one of you wonderful ladies say, "Sorry if this is TMI but ..." I think, "Oh sweetie, you don't have to say that."

So, what do you think? It seems we’re all very intelligent, polite, and tactful ladies. I trust that we will be able to gauge the appropriateness of our posts. I think we can set the permission meter pretty high on relevant subjects. (Still adhering to MDC’s rules of behavior, of course.)

Okay … now I have to get back to personals …

(I’m very loquacious this morning. Sorry for these long posts! )

KittyKat, I hope everything is okay. Hopefully you had to leave because you got some good news?!

Kiya, I’m waiting for cross-hairs too, girl! I see we both had a temp increase today. We can bite out nails together over the next two weeks! Your timing looks excellent!!

Kemi, your husband is awesome! Sounds very romantic. I think we need to bring out the candles next cycle! I had the same issue—the “freeze”—that you did the first day or so. It was pretty upsetting to me, so I know how you feel. Good for you for relaxing and having a great time. Looks like your timing is spot on and you’ll be joining in the nail-biting fest very soon!

Christina: Looks like you’re gearing up for O. Come on computer, say it … say it …!

Sarah, I your chart! I love that you made your DH pay you back for that test, too. Hopefully the next test will have something better to say. :

Jen, I’m so glad you’re feeling better! I can’t wait to see pics of your windows. Second to obsessing over reproduction, I love learning about home repair and decorating. (I am a bit of and HGTV addict.) Hope the tax preparation went well.

Dee, so glad you are doing well!! I love that you and our other pregnant graduates stop in to talk to us. You bring us hope and renew our excitement! Good luck with your dissertation—sounds very interesting!

Xenon, how are you doing? I see your temps went down, but there’s no AF yet. Still have my fingers crossed for you! :

Kripa, how are you doing? Looks like your timing this cycle was fantastic!

Christina: Thanks re: my new sig ... There’s some more backstory to that silly little “h.” Essentially, although I like my name, I think it’s boring; I saw someone spell it with an “h” once and thought that was the "kh"oolest thing—it transformed the whole vibe of the name. I joked with my DH and friends that I should officially change my name to Kharen—surely that “h” would save me from my dorkiness! I settled for using it as my online persona: pretty much the Karen you’d meet in real life but injected with a bit more pizzazz (or so I hope)!

Re: various comments on the hip-propping thing: Yeah, I’ve read some conflicting reports about the utility of this method. Some recommend it for gravity assistance, but others caution that too much elevation can send the swimmers behind the cervix. Thinking I was clever, I split the difference and used a very small pillow to give a tiny bit of lift. Essentially, I think it’s just a matter of feeling like your body is in a good position. Our bed is almost too supportive and was keeping my abdomen in a straight line; the pillow helped keep everything “in place.”

Thanks for the votes of confidence on our BD timing! I feel like I learned a lot both emotionally and physically this cycle—there are definitely a few things we’ll do differently next cycle.

Have a great day! Onward and upward!
