I already posted this in a different forum, but am hoping some of you women here might be able to help me!

Wondering if anyone has any advice on this subject: Yesterday morning I used an Accu Clear HPT and got a faint positive. Even my skeptic partner agreed that it looked "real," although we still didn't believe it totally (which is why I didn't post here about it). I am 90% sure it wasn't an evaporation line, because it was thicker and pinkish than the one I almost got fooled by last month. I even had a coworker who has been pregnant before look at it, and she agreed. Basically, this is the first time in the five months we've been trying that I've seen a line like this.
So this a.m. I tested again with a First Response....nothing! Not an iota. I've heard of people getting lots of negatives before a positive, but not a positive and then a negative. I suppose I could've been "pregnant" until today, but that seems like a coincidence. Add maybe it could just be an evap line that looks different. Has anyone else ever had this happen and been pregnant? Can HPT brands be that different?
Any input would be greatly appreciated!
P.S. Today is my 12th day after insemination. My "positive" test was 11 days after
Different brands have different sensitivities. First Response may be less sensitive than Accu Clear. That would explain why one was positive and one was not.
- The 'positive' test was actually an evaporation line. However if it had colour and you saw it within the (usually 10 minute) window the box says is accurate, this is unlikely.
- You had a chemical pregnancy (very early miscarriage).
- The second test was less sensitive. I actually had a positive with a dollar store test BEFORE the FRER. This is still early, early days yet, mama. You might not get reliable positives for a day or two more, and still be very much pregnant.
Check out www.peeonastick.com for info about evap lines and the sensitivity of various tests. Good luck! My fingers are crossed for you.
I just realized that it was probably a false positive, because it was outside the 10 minute window (closer to 20, but definitely not longer than that). i hadn't realized it could make such a big difference. also, on the peeonastick site, i saw that accu-clear is known for false positives after the time limit. oh well! now i know it for the future. and, as thismama points out, it's still early, so i have some hope left.
Glad you got it figured out! Just wanted to add that a friend of mine got a BFP one evening, then 2 days of BFN.... and she was pregnant. Same brand too (but don't know which). So I guess it is possible.
I'd get a bllod test if you can. I was pg with my third son and took 5 tests, they all were negative. I had the bloodtest done and found out I was just 3 weeks.
Amber Lion and momoftworedheads, those are great stories to hear! thank you so much for sharing them. I'm trying not to get my hopes up, but they do make me feel better.

That happened to me last time too. (With the same brand and all.) I had tested sooo early. I got a positive at 7 or 8 dpo and then not again for a couple of days! I imagine how diluted your urine is makes a big difference when testing early.
You'd think I would have learned a lesson to avoid the aggravation this time around!
I have had hpts turn positive- several, actually. Its usually after the time limit has passed. (Pink or blue line- not the gray/white bit where the line should show up, if there is hcg detected.) However, last year at some point, I had a blue-dye test show up
- at least as dark as the one with my daughter's pregnancy at 12 dpo - WITHIN the time limit! I was feeling dog-nose-ish, and tired, etc. Omg! I literally gasped and about fainted! (I am on Mirena right now and with a boyfriend; divorced from my children's father for 4 years now. Of course, I gasped at my youngest child's
hpt too, but....) Anyway, I guess that last one wasn't an evap, but a chemical pregnancy. I have the Mirena IUD which, I guess, allows for normal hormone function/ovulation, but the lining of the uterus never developes thick enough for a pregnancy to "stick". I am mostly okay with this as my pregnancies were not uneventful and my boyfriend is 47- his youngest graduates from h.s. this year. (When I was much younger- even before TTC, I had a line show up on a HPT. My sister bought another and had me retest and those tests were :- However, I didn't start my period after, either. )
wanted to update you all that i went in for a blood test yesterday and got the results: negative. so it was indeed a false positive! not going to use accu-clear again!
thanks for all your help. it made the last few days much more bearable.
