I started taking maca yesterday am excited about the group! Please add me too!
maefair/Christina, started Maca 2 Tbsp/day 3/21/08.

I started looking into natural supplements because I went off BCP and started TTC on 1/3/08 and haven't seen AF since 12/20/07. I don't know if I am ovulating yet, but will add a link to my chart in a few. My husband isn't taking it, just me. I am so excited to join you guys!

How caloric is the Maca Powder? Is it mostly protein? Carbs? just curious.

Lauren31, I'm not sure! I'll see if I can find some info on that.

I just tried to post this once, hopefully it won't double post:

Lauren, here's what I just found:

Serving Size of 2 tsp.
Calories 22
Calories from Fat 2
Total Fat 136 mg
Saturated Fat 52 mg
Cholesterol 0 mg
Sodium 2.5 mg
Potassium 125 mg
Total Carbohydrates 3.8 g
Dietary Fiber 510 mg
Sugars 1.4 g
Protein 670 mg

Note however that 2 tsp is below the normal recommended dosage... so you may need to multiply this to see what you're actually getting.

does anyone have experience with the gelatinized powder vs the regular raw powder? i know it's a bit more expensive, but if there's a big difference in taste/palatability i might have to splurge just to insure that dh will be more willing to take it

Well according to FedEx my maca was supposed to be here yesterday, but the package never came! I'm guessing that means it will be here on Monday... hopefully!

Hey all...
I have this raw protein powder stuff that is a Maca/Hemp/Flax mix. I ate some probably only 5 times in the first half of my cycle, but I think it might have been at least a part of why I ovulated earlier than usual. Day 16 instead of day 21-24.
I'm not sure if we were able to time right to get pregnant, but I guess we'll see!

I don't have any experience with the raw powder, even though I should be getting mine in the mail in the next few days, but I bought the capsule kind about 4 days ago and find that it has no taste. My dh takes it as soon as I give it to him and I don't have the reaction I have when I take my prenatals (yuck). Of course, it's only been a few days so I'm not sure that it has any effect either. I am, however, really hopeful. I can't wait to see what happens as the weeks pass.

I'm loving life with my DH and DS (2/28/10) and expecting the surprise of my life in September! belly.gif

Welcome all new comers! Christina... your chart totally looks like the first half of mine... temps everywhere. Stupid BC pills...

Made a smoothie with the Maca on Friday... so much better. It seems half way decent in Orange Juice too. I've noted banana flavored things help a lot.

Temps are still even compared to earlier on my chart... this is a positive thing. Hoping something of note happens soon.

I tried Maca for awhile, but found that it worsened my already low blood pressure. Maybe I should have taken it with salt to counter all the potassium?

I could be better. I am still having some weird bright red spotting that makes me worry that I do have a cyst or fibroid, and I'm also really concerned that losing my job & thus my health insurance will impact my ability to treat these potential problems. It is a lot on my plate right now... I'm just hoping that answers will come and times will get better soon. Thanks for asking.

Oh, Alice! I'm so sorry about the job! That is a lot on your plate right now... stress can do some CRAZY things... so maybe that is even affecting the spotting.

I hope things calm down and sort out in your life so you can TTC stress-free.

Hi everyone
I'd like to join in with this one too, although I still have to order the maca - which I'll do shortly! Just a question - is maca considered OK to take with soy isoflavone? I'm going to poke around online now and see if I can find an answer but just thought I'd throw it out to you guys as well!

Also, any of you ladies UK based and found a good supplier?

Sorry for all the questions!

Alice - sorry to hear about your job situ, just wanted to let you know the same happened me almost exactly a year ago and I felt like my whole life would collapse - a year on, self employed and loving it! Just wanted to share, so you know it can work out! Love your jewellery! Do you do any kinda artwork for products / would you conisder doing it? Just one of the companies I do some work with has just launched in the US and will probably be looking for artists.

Me & DH TTC #3!  DD1 is 8 and DD2 is 2.  Struggled to conceive DD2, eventually getting a BFP after 35 months ttc & a month out from starting fertility treatment!  Now TTC#3, had an early miscarriage in Sept 2011 greensad.gif.  Here's my chart http://www.fertilityfriend.com/home/1eeaa4

Thanks doodledoo - yes, I do graphic design for products as well as web graphics and print materials... if you wouldn't mind PMing me with the company name & possibly contact info, that would be great! I would love to freelance for a living, I'm just so nervous about keeping a steady stream of work coming.

My maca arrived and I took some just now.... whew!

So when I opened the package and got a whiff of it I was like oh GOD, this is going to be quite an experience. I put some in my breakfast smoothie (mango, banana, strawberries, blueberries & kiwi with a little OJ and a little yogurt) and at first I was like, hey, this isn't so bad, I can barely taste it! Then I got to the bottom of the glass and it was all clumped down there. I had to just chug it down. Yikes. The maca adventure begins!

Oh boy Alice! I should be getting mine in the mail any day now, but I've been taking the gelatanized (capsule) kind for about 5 days and it isn't bad at all. Maybe I'll stick with the capsules if the powder is really gross.
And here is an observation for the group: Maybe it's psychosomatic, but this weekend DH and I dtd 3 times in 24 hours and he would've been ready to go again if we weren't busy getting our house ready to be shown. Wow. I'll give the credit to Maca. And dh, of course.

Thanks again doodledoo!

LibraryMo - I think I just need to mix it up better! I had already made my smoothie when the package arrived and I just mixed some in with a spoon. Next time I'm pretty sure it will be a lot better!

From the taste of it I think it would be best hidden in a smoothie that has banana with either peanut/almond butter or chocolate.

It seems like there are so many places to get it from - I'm trying to figure out if it would 'float' - I have a powdered greenfood that I take (need to start taking again, if I can find one without soy/wheat), and I could totally mix the maca in with that.

Maybe I'll go to Whole Foods and get a small pack before I splurge on the big one.....

JSMa, how long did it take you to get back to normal? I still need to look at your chart, obv.

I'm not finding the Maca to be that bad! I've been mixing 2 Tbsp in a smoothie of soy yogurt, frozen blueberries and strawberries, honey, pomegranate juice and wheat germ and I kinda like it!

It takes a while to make and I'm slow in the morning though. Is the goal to eat once a day at the same time or is it okay to eat sometimes in the a.m., sometimes in the p.m. Prob doesn't matter

Add me to the list though! I got the powder and will be taking 2 tsp a day. As pp asked - does it have to be twice a day or just once? Oooh I can't wait!!
