I know I'm not pregnant.

I took 10 mg of Provera for 10 days. Tomorrow is day 10 after my last pill. I still haven't gotten my period.

I am freaking out. Does anybody know what this means?

((((((Chrissy)))))) I wouldn't freak out quite yet. Let's hope it started as soon as you created this thread. Now, that would be nice timing.

I think the next step is to call your provider. And, see what he suggests doing next. He seems like a reasonable man, I'm sure he'll have explainations and next step for you.

Ah, sheesh. I'm sorry AF didn't start. As if you don't have enough on your mind! I'm sending you peaceful vibes & hoping that this journey for you can be easy from here on out!!!

Hi Crissy,

I'm writing just with empathy not any information. I'm so sorry you haven't gotten your period yet. How frustrating! I don't even know what provera is, can you tell me? What I do know is that you have been trying to get your cycles back for a long time and that it is so hard to wait when you are trying to get pregnant.

As a mama with an almost weaned, almost 24 month old darling boy with no sign of a period yet I truly empathize. I'm trying acupuncture and some herbal supplements at the moment but I have an appt. with my nurse midwife this week so we'll see what she says.

Hang in there girl, I know it 's hard. Deb

I'm sorry you're having this worrisome experience! Several things may be happening:

Your body may have suddenly decided to ovulate while you were taking Provera, so that now your own progesterone is high, and you won't start bleeding until it drops.

You may be slow in getting the Provera out of your system, in which case you will bleed eventually...it'll just take a few more days. Try extra fluids, fiber, and exercise to help move it along.

You may be having a weird reaction to it. Are you having major PMS symptoms, like excruciatingly sore breasts, nausea, etc.? I've had "overdose" reactions to Provera when I'd only taken the normal dose. I just had to wait it out, but there may be something a practitioner with a clue can do to make you more comfortable.

You may not have built up much of a lining in response to the Provera, in which case there's nothing to shed. That COULD be a sign of trouble, but more likely it's caused by stress, anemia, or just not being ready to resume cycles postpartum. Have you had any spotting?

You may have taken Provera that had lost its strength. Was this a bottle that you picked up right before you started taking it, or did you buy multiple rounds at once a few months ago?

Definitely talk to your practitioner. Testing your blood hormone levels might be a good move at this point, or after a few more days of no bleeding. If nothing happens after 2 or 3 weeks, ask for an endometrial biopsy to determine how much lining is in there and what kind it is and how old--that will tell you what effect the Provera had.

If there's no apparent reason why it didn't work for you, try another form of progesterone next time.

Good luck!

Thank you all for your support.

Deb, sounds like you know just about how I feel. I think I remember you posting awhile back that you had nightweaned in hopes that your fertility would return? Was that you? I am sorry you are in the same confusing situation that I am. I'll be interested to hear what your midwife has to say. I have never tried acupuncture, but I am planning to make an appointment to have some reflexology done. And definitely a massage to help me relax. Would you tell me what herbs you are trying?
Oh, from what I understand, Provera is a synthetic Progesterone. It's supposed to build up a lining in your uterus when you take it, then when you stop your body knows you aren't pregnant so it is supposed to shed the lining and you have a period.

Becca, thank you sooooooooo much for that abundant info!

I talked to the RE's office yesterday and they wanted to start me on a 28 day cycle of hormone replacement therapy. The first 21 days would be estrogen and the last 7 would be progesterone. Then I should definitely have a period after that. I think I'm going to wait on that though- let my body have a chance to sort itself out. They said that was fine too.

I am so bad at being patient.

Thank you again!

Chrissy, just a thought. I had a looong cycle a clouple of months after stopping Depo (125 by the end) and instead of using Provera, I tried natural prog cream for 10 days and it took almost another 2 weeks after that to finally get AF. I'm sure you're body is no way as messed up as mine was, but what it felt like was the prog cream helped even me out a bit (ended all the pregnancy symptoms I was having that even had my Dr shaking her head) and then it kind of got back into a groove from there. That cycle finally ended in April and was pretty light and the next 3 cycles after were pretty normal, but still light, getting heavier each time, so I think my body was getting used to thickening the lining enough.

Anyway, that's probably not much help, but I wanted to say that it helped for me to give a little boost to my uterus and then give it some time to figure itself out It wasn't to the point that I was upset about not being pregnant yet, as we were just starting TTC, so maybe that made it easier, but it felt right for me to do it more naturally after having my hormones so artificial for so long, KWIM?

I'm sure you'll be starting a new cycle really soon, and I'll be woo-hooing for that one last AF that you'll see for a while
